1. Lift and hold the switch until the window is fully closed, then release
the switch.
2. Lift the switch again for one more second.
3. Press and hold the switch until the window is fully open, then release

With one of the software upgrades (I think it was the one for the engine overheating), I experienced this issue with the windows afterward - had to bring it back to the dealership - and they reset it for me. I think it runs the risk of this happening any time there is some sort of reboot.

Thank you for this post! I just got in my vehicle and realized the auto up/down function wasn't working anymore. The battery was disconnected yesterday so I guess that's what did it. But your solution worked perfect!
I've had my Escape for just over a month. Made my first payment a couple days ago. The first couple weeks were a dream. And that's tough to say because I've never really been a Ford fan. But the last couple weeks have been such a headache. I regret not doing my homework on these things! I'm trying to be patient though....

Yeah, another anomaly about this vehicle. Some people have reported their one-touch windows still work after a battery disconnect and some folks(like me) have to reset every time power is lost.

I called my dealer a few days ago to have this checked out because when my windows froze the other day it must have tripped something when it stuck on me at a drive-thru and caused my driver side auto-up to stop working. Then for no reason today it's working again. I've tried it numerous times throughout today and it appears that the mechanic will absolutely NOT see it fail now. I have an extended warranty for 4 more years, should I just cancel it and see if it ever happens again? I have a big feeling I'll be wasting a day off now.

The thing that confuses me is that it seems to have just started working again on it's own without me going through the sequence described in the OP. Maybe Ford introduced little healing nanites in 2017 lol

@roadshow, the relearn is for when there is a battery disconnect. If something (ice, arms, legs) caused the auto up to do a safety stop, then it is doing its job. Shouldn't be any need for a relearn, but it might need an ignition cycle or 2 or some number of manual full up/down cycles before it re-enables itself.
