Interesting, prompts a few questions ...
1. With no wiring to the FE, what turns it on/off? Is that done manually?
2. Got any installed pics from the front and back showing how it fits over the FE mirror?
3. Is the on-mirror display always "on" and if you can turn it 'off' does that section then become part of the normal rear-view mirror?
4. At 12.4" wide does it interfere with sun-visor operation?

TIA

Hi Tia,

Yes, turning it on and off is done manually. Basically I press two buttons each time I get in my FE and begin to drive.....turn it on, then turn on recording. Two quick hits of a couple of buttons. Then when I reach my destination, I simply power it off.

I will take some pictures soon and post them here for you to see the front & rear of the install.

The mirror display can be turned off or on at any time in the settings. You can choose to have it on while it records or not. Yes, if you turn it off, you will basically just see a full mirror. The display blends in with the mirror and you can see through it....if that makes any sense.....lol

No interference so far with regards to the visors; however I will double check when taking the photos and confirm with you.

Cheers

Hi Thenorm

Nice job on the installation. Just wondering if you know if fuse 87 is constantly on ( like the 12V outlet) or does it power on when the ignition is engaged.

Thanks

On both USA and CA models fuse 87 is hot only when ignition is in "run" (not "accessory"). That's the fuse I tapped for the DRL mod for my USA FE so they only come on when the engine is running.

That's why Thenorm's camera is auto-on when he drives, auto-off when he doesn't, as described above in post number 6.

IF you wanted the ability to optionally record with the ignition off, you could parallel-wire a tap to always-hot fuse 66 with a discrete switch between that tap and a "Y" in the power feed to the camera after the fuse 87 tap. Not saying you should, but if you wanted the camera audio to keep recording with the key off .... for example during a 'traffic-stop' :-0

if you wanted to you could wire up to a constant 12V source and use a "Power Magic" to control the power. It keeps recording until your battery reaches a certain discharge level (voltage) then it closes the circuit. but you would get a bunch of hours of recording after you shut off the car.

Amazon Amazon

the other option is fined a circuit that is on for accessory. they stay powered for around 20minutes after you turn the car off.

Great info here, thanks guys. I just installed my Thinkware FS750 with rear camera using fuse 87 for ACC and 66 for the always on. Works perfectly.
I used the add-a-fuse type of tap as well and it was a quick and easy install (once I realized these cars use mini-fuses)

had an interesting vid recently.
normally i don't get my feathers ruffled when other driver do stupid things that don't affect me, but this vid prompted me to report it to the Police, especially because the cross walk was occupied.

I need a dash camera just for this. There are so many idiotic drivers out there. I hope this offender got a ticket after you reported them.

Hi Thenorm,
I have 2013 Escape Titanium and Fuse #87 seem to be not working. Does anyone have the same issue like me? Now I use #85 using add a fuse but I rather use #87 since there is nothing there.
Thank you

Was the ignition on when you checked? Properly grounded, good connections?
Even if you don't have the option that uses the output of fuse 87, the wiring should be there in the fuse panel.
