My battery died at 18 months. Replaced under warranty.

Ps if u keep jumper cables in the back. You're unlikely to be really stranded.

I typically replace my batteries at around 6 or 7 years. Since my Escape will shut down and restart when I'm stopped I don't know how that will effect the battery life, but I guess time will tell. I have had a few batteries go bad early over the years. As long as they stay charged they'll generally last a long time unless they're defective.

I've had very good luck with Motorcraft batteries, typically 7 years. Heat kills batteries, not cold, so that's the reason they don't last as long in hot climates. There is a considerable parasitic load on new cars today with all the electronics, so using a battery maintainer when the car will sit for a while can go a long way. My neighbor has a 10 year old Motorcraft battery that is still good and tests A-ok.

The Escapes with stop-start feature use a AGM battery which should last a long time. At around $180, I sure hope so.
