starting car if battery goes dead in key fob......

I just bought a new 2014 Ford Escape (titanium model). How do you start the engine if the battery in the key fob goes dead?? I know there is the key in the fob that opens the door, but not sure how to start the engine. There is an indentation on the right side of the steering column with the picture of a key, but no opening for a key. Thanks for your help.

The battery in the key fob is used for the transmitter for the button actions. Remote Start, Lock, Unlock, Open and Close Liftgate and Panic. It is also constantly transmitting a low signal to the two receivers in the car to allow you to start it as long as the key is anywhere inside the car. If the battery goes dead, you take the key fob and place it on the right side of the steering column where there is a picture of a key and hold it there while pressing the brake and pushing the engine start button as usual. The car will start normally. It uses a RFID tag to identify it is your key fob. If you want to test this, just remove the battery from the key fob and try it.

@Madness3120 I merged your thread with this existing one. Have a look at the youtube video posted above in post # 5 for instructions on this.

Doesnt answer my question

I asked what if the key fob BREAKS. I am assuming you will have to get a ride to your house and get the extra key fob. Or in cases as myself, would have to get it towed to a dealer because I only have 1 key fob.

This is the same thing. If your Intelligent Access Key FOB breaks OR has a dead battery. The procedure is the same. Did you review the video above? I suppose if you completely damage it where the embedded RFID chip is damaged, then you might have a problem. Not sure how you could ever damage it this badly, but if that is the case, then yes. You would most likely have to get the extra FOB.

Yeap, but if your fob breaks (cracks opens, shatters into pieces, ran over, etc) how are you going to hold the crumbled up pieces to the steering column ?
