Sync 3 v2.2 Official Update

SYNC 3 v2.2 just became available for me officially on the "my owner" site for me. Here are the details::

What's included in this update?
HN1T-14G381-SA SYNC3 v2.2
This software release is the latest update in our continued efforts to improve system performance, device connectivity, and the overall SYNC experience.

This software contains the following enhancements:

Updated voice recognition engine.
Navigation user interface improvements (if equipped).
Android Auto™ for supported devices.
Apple CarPlay™ for supported devices. Owners of 2016 models with SYNC 3 are required to perform a software update and purchase a hardware upgrade through your dealer.
The installation of this update will take up to 60 minutes to complete. DO NOT remove your USB drive or turn off your vehicle. You must wait until Installation Complete is displayed on the center screen before removing your drive or turning your vehicle off.

Be sure your vehicle engine is running (not in accessory mode) throughout the entire installation process. Although your vehicle must be in park when you initiate the installation process, once the download process has begun, you may drive your vehicle.

Site also says that it is possible it already may have been installed via wifi (not for me though, I have turned off wifi updates). I likely will use the USB drive method when I get around to the install.

Any feedback for the "official install" for a 2016 Escape would be appreciated!

Interesting, the file sizes have changed from the "unofficial" one and there is an extra file in the syncmyride folder. There were 4 files in that folder before and now there are five. The fifth file is named GB5T-14G386-AA.tar.gz

Different build. The one online was to 16280. I believe this one goes to 17011.

Just checked the owner site. It says it's now available for my wife's . Hers is set up to do the wifi updates . Will have to check it tonight

USB UPDATE REPORT,
I did the update earlier this morning successfully though not without a scare. Here is what happened:

1. Updated to computer and decompressed files to USB drive as directed.
2. Removed all USB's from the car and then inserted the update USB.
3. Car immediately sensed and gave message that system was being updated.
4. After about 30 minutes, got message that the drive could be removed and that new system would be available on next start sequence.
5. I did a short shutdown and restarted and nothing happened. Still on v 1.1.
6. Did another shutdown lasting about 30 seconds. This time got an update screen.
7. My phone was recognized. HOWEVER, MAP SCREEN STATED LOADING.
8. Waited another 40 minutes with maps loading statement. Nothing working except phone connected. No Siri though.
9. Decided to do a Master Reset. Master reset done, I was able to get all Sync 3 v2.2 screens. Siri works and App Link works.
10. Things "seem" to be correct but will really confirm over the next several days.
11. Have noticed that I have a new voice for Sync. Not yet familiar wirth any other changes.
12. I likely will not do the hardware upgrade to Car Play (hub) as I am happy with the Ford functions.

Hope this helps. Please give your experiences.

Also, please note that the USB procedure on the My Owner site refers to updating MFT and not Sync 3. This is confusing but works. You would have thought that Ford would have corrected this considering the "additional time" they took for the release.

In case anyone else runs into this, all that's needed to cure this is to turn the vehicle off, leave it off for a minute or two, then back on. No master reset required.

Thanks UM. Also, when I attempted to "confirm" the update, I got a "fail" several times. I called the Ford hep center and spoke to a Serata (I think). Took a bit to explain but she eventually asked for my VIN and then confirmed back to me that Ford had it as a successful install. So, apparently, it reported a sucessful install to Ford but not to me. I am running Windows 7 and Chrome. Also, Sereta was unaware that even though I have a 2016 with Sync 3 that the install instructions reference it as MFT.

Not automatic, you still need to initiate it, you just don't need a memory stick.

How do you initiate it ?
I checked and it's still on version 1.0 said last check for update was Saturday night. The weird part is the vehicle was 250 miles away fro our wifi at that time.
