It is interesting the it was your starter. My wife has had this problem with her 2013 2.0 FE since we got it. Two weeks ago, it finally would not start at all. After being towed in, the shop manager had to get the area tech involved. They found the that BCM (body control modual) needed to be replaced. So far 1500 miles later, everything seems to be up and running.

Ford has let my family down

After my sisters 2013 1.6l escape has failed to start and leave her stranded 6 times I believe Ford has let their customers down. Bringing the vehicle into the dealerships didn't solve the problem until recently. Each time they brought the vehicle in the dealerships said they checked all connections and that the car was fine. More like its not their problem. The problem persisted until eventually the starter was replaced for the price of 5k under warranty to Ford. This however did not fix the problem. The escape ended up not starting over 250 miles from home and had to be left at a dealership in Traverse City MI. This dealership finally found the issue. There is a 250 Amp fuse for the starter located underneath the fuse box that was arcing, melting the plastic, and is a fire hazard. This poor ground connection was not "checked" by the other dealerships after they said they had checked "all connections". A case report was opened by Ford to determine the problem, but after the fix was paid for Ford corporate service reps told my family that the case is closed and its not their problem anymore. This is unacceptable from a company that you place your trust in to design a good product that will not leave you stranded and on top of that refuse to pay for or fix the problem to keep their customers happy. As an engineer I do not agree with this practice of not taking care of their customers. Next time my family will search for a car from another company that will help their customers.

From an unhappy Ford customer.

I hope it wasn't a 250 amp fuse.

This is the result of fords 250 amp fuse not having a good connection. Ford wouldn't even pay for the fix. After the car has been stranded six times and hundreds of miles away from home it is ridiculous that they wouldn't want to keep their customers happy.

Looks like Tasca calls them Maxi fuses, the largest being 100 amps. Yikes, that's still a lot of juice.

Wow, the Mega out maxes the maxis 60 - 500 amps, they usually fuse alternators and battery mains. There is also a Midi fuse - 100 - 200 amps...

Have same issue, all of the sudden 1 day no crank, tried for a week. Took the battery and starter out to have tested and both good. Also swapped relays and changed ignition switch. Finally had towed to dealer and after messing around for a couple days they said open wire behind dash to BCM. $1100 is there price.
