Turn OFF Intelligent 4WD Escape 2013?

Hey Everyone,

I tried using the search on the forum and google and i can't seem to find an answer.

Is there a way to disable the Intelligent 4WD?
I would like turning it ON during winter or when i go off road, but i am pretty sure the 4WD ruins my fuel economy when driving in the city.

I know i could disable it if i was driving a real 4x4, but can we somehow turn it off so it is not constantly ON when i start moving at every stop sign?

I'm driving the 2.0L 4WD 2013 Escape.

You can turn it off thru the Quad screen between the Tach and the speedometer. Press the left arrow next to the OK button on the steering wheel. Scroll up or down to information. Click information and scroll till you find 4WD. then you can click on or off with OK button.

Thanks, i will check once again, but i think the only thing i found was to disable the TCS, but not 4WD.
Is this something available to the 2014 only or i need to get an update of the quad screen at my ford dealer?
Can anyone confirm this?

I could disable the 4WD on my 2005 Escape by pulling a fuse. It worked but would set off a warning in the Info Display.

I do not think there is a way to disable the 4WD on the newer Escapes.

My 1998 Subaru Outback had a fuse holder under the hood that would put the car into FWD mode if you installed a fuse. The Owners Manual contained instructions to install the fuse when running a temporary spare to prevent binding caused by running a tire with a mismatching circumference.

Make sense, I wonder if there is a non-official way to turn it off in the same fashion on our Escape. I see no point in running in awd mode all the time.

Actually, it's not running in AWD all the time... That's why it's called Intelligent 4WD.

Yes. I found it is 50/50 mostly when you start from traffic light and switches to FWD after. At least according to AWD Info Screen.

I drove around town this morning with the intelligent 4WD screen on and for the most part it's FWD until you step on it then it's 4WD but goes right back to FWD.
