bed length (seat down)

Since this is not specified, I need to ask:

With the rear seat(s) down flat, what is the 'bed length' (in inches) from the front seat(s) to the rear hatch (closed)?

I ask because I'm pondering using an Escape as an occasional 'camper' ... and I'm 6'2" (74"). I want to know if I could lay out a sleeping bag on the flat 'bed' when the rear seats are folded flat.

Thanks - for going out and measuring. ;)

Only because I had to go back there anyway to wash the rear window, since our dog got dog-nose smudges on it:

From the inside of the liftgate to the back of the center console (this is the limiting factor because, unlike the front seats, it can't be moved) is about 67.5 inches. There might be a little more room on either side if you slid the front seat forward as much as possible. I leave it to you and the Pythagorean Theorem to decide if sleeping diagonally is feasible. :)

Pythagorean Theorem

Thanks - for the measurement, JMR. To try out the Pythagorean Theorem, I would need one more side of the triangle - to calculate the hypotenuse! :) ... i.e. the width.

67" length sounds like a 73" diagonal might be a (tight) possibility? What do you think?

I'm considering an Escape, but haven't bought one, yet - to measure, myself.

I assumed you could make an educated guess about the interior width from the exterior measurements. ;) Regardless of the exact dimensions, however, I think that physically testing out the space is your only solution. A recumbent human body needs more room than a tape measure -- your feet have to go somewhere, for example. They usually add a lot to the total distance needed. And even if you were comfortable sleeping with your ankles at right angles, there might not be enough lateral room to place your feet along the door.

All I know is that my snowboard is 158 mm, so it should fit. :D

IDK about this years, but my 10's front seat was able to collapse flat as well, making it possible to sleep in the car. But if you are over 5'6-8 you cant do it in this with just the back seat down. I couldn't fit 6ft fence boards in the car with the tailgate down... but I did fit 240 of them with it open. I would see if the front pass seat will fold forward.
