I just bought a Thule roof-rack system for my 2014 2.0 Escape.
Now I ma just wondering where the best places to tie down would be to the front and back as I do not see any tow rings to attach to. just lots of plastic underneath.
Welcome to the forum, Josh! It's a roof rack, not specifically a canoe carrier? We bought kayak carriers that fit onto the rack, and for stability you might do something similar. Like these, though there are other types.
Just purchased a canoe myself and when securing to the roof rack of my Escape realized that the Escape front end sucks for tie downs. Lots of splash shielding under the front end with no access points for a tie down.
Does anyone have further feedback on the use of quick loop tie downs or another solution to secure the front of a canoe on the Escape?
What about using the tow loop attachment? It threads into the front bumper on the passenger side. Look for a small cover that pops off down by the parking lights.
I forgot about the tow loop attachment on the passenger side....I'll stop by the dealership and pick one up. I'm not a fan of single point of failures so if nothing else I'll still use a hood quick loop tie down on the drivers side.
My dad made a front tie down with some angle iron and a post for the old 2005 escape. I was curious if that would bolt to the new escape with some modifying.
Bull bar, hood hoops and that tow hook are good options! I saved the tow hook from my mazdaspeed 3, I should see if it fits.....
