I get around 19 here in NYC the heat definitely hurts especially on the 85+ days. Also remember the heat coming off that pavement is really hot! As previously stated we have a small hard working turbo and a tiny intercooler (which I hope to find a good upgrade to) I have a 2013 Ti 2.0 AWD

I go by the dash display for my mileage. I live in SF which has traffic lights, stop signs, and hills EVERYWHERE. But I do a fair amount of highway travel too, so the mileage has always been disappointing. When I just do city driving, I get around 14 mpg.

the AC compressor is variable displacement. so when its doesn't have to cool hard, it hardly pulls any power.

The fuel in San Francisco is a special blend that lowers pollution but lowers fuel milage as well. Did a trip myself recently up to Iowa. Used regular unleaded on the way there and got 32.2 mpg. Filled the tank up in Des Moines for the drive back. The pump had all over it how I was filling my tank with Iowa corn based ethanol. I got 30.1 mpg for the drive back.

So much effects your milage. You're in San Francisco. Lots of hills. Hills suck down your milage like a black hole. Especially in any sort of city driving.

hot air is also less dense than cold air, and that might be another reason you're losing MPG when it gets hot out. Small displacement motors and/or turbo motors are especially sensitive to this.

In my first tank after buying my used 2014 with the 2.0 Ecoboost, I had 22.5 mpg hand calculated. That's with the AC running on high at all times in 100+ outside temps, and stop-and-go driving.

In about 500 miles after that, including 100 miles of freeway driving, the computer says average mpg = 25.2.
