EPA MPG Estimates Less for '17

I just noticed that the EPA mileage estimate for the 2017 Escape 1.5L EcoBoost in the SE FWD is 30 highway mpg. My 2014 SE 1.6L EcoBoost FWD is rated at 32 highway mpg (and is very capable of getting that at 65-70 mph).

I also see that the other engines seem to be down on mpg for 2017.

Does anyone know the reason for this reduction on the new models?

It's probably because of the slightly higher horsepower

I believe it is a result of a new more realistic method of calculating actual real world fuel economy. Their old system was entirely flawed and was for the most part based on near ideal conditions which we all know don't exist.

/\ This. Sure you can get 32mpg in the 1.6L and I have. Perfectly flat or downhill, steady 65mph, no wind, no cargo, no a/c, etc.

I'm interested to see how my 17's MPG works out. In my previous car (BMW 228i) I was averaging about 38MPG, which is more than the stated Highway MPG even though not all my driving is on the highway. I'd also get 40+ MPG on a long highway trip.

20.1 mpg (on 2.0 2017) in city.
Tried both 87 and 91 octane, no difference.
