2013 vs 2014 Ford Escape

So whats changed in a year? Obviously not much as the Escape just had its redesign and is still at least 2 years from its mid cycle refresh, but Ford did make some slight improvements to the 2014 Escape.

Some of this information has been bandied about on the forum but i figured it would be good to consolidate all info in one locale...
  • For 2014 the Escape gets a standard backup camera across all trim levels
  • Base S model gets a price increase of $230, SE models increase $480 while prices for Titanium trim have reduced $1,270
  • Facilitating the Titaniums price drop is a swap to the 1.6L Ecoboost as standard engine, while the 2.0 remains a $1,195 option
  • Titanium sees standard wheels reduced from 19 inch to 18, 19s remain as a $595 option
  • SEL trim level discontinued
  • hands free power liftgate grouped with 3,500 lb tow package

I expect 2014 Escapes to show fewer quality issues; Already the '14 Escape is on dealer lots and are outnumbering 2013 models by a 3-to-1 ration in inventories. Although if looking for a new Escape on the cheap the remaining '13 stock is the best bet, although you do run the risk of first model year issues...

Most of the changes to the Ford Escape seem pretty reasonable. Why did they get rid of the SEL trim level though? Did it not sell? Nice to have the back-up camera as standard for all models. I think most cars should start offering that as standard. It's not hard to add in and it makes reversing sooooo much easier.

Not yet. That's not supposed to be available until December or so. Right now, if you get the towing package, the foot-operated liftgate is still deleted, but you get a $40 price cut.

Several additional changes (all posted before):
  • Leather seats are now standard in the Titanium, but they are the seats from the 2013 SEL, in both style and colors (charcoal and light stone).
  • The Titanium now has the chrome liftgate trim from the 2013 SEL.
  • HIDs no longer standard in Titanium; part of optional Tech Package.
  • A trinket tray comes in the center console!
  • New colors: Sunset Red (available now), Karat Gold (available Dec. or so); Kodiak Brown and Ginger Ale discontinued.

Depends on how old the 2013 is. I doubt that a 2013 built in May has a higher risk of defects than a 2014 built in June.

I'll take one this afternoon....but yes, it will fit into the 2013 model's. There's a little lip on the 2014 to hold it in place.

Actually, the standard back up camera made my decision

I appreciate your restrained and appropriate use of the exclamation point.

Does anyone have any pictures of the new colors that are coming out? I am not sure how I feel about gold vehicles, and it is a bit sad to see brown going since I think that is a really nice color for cars these days.
