Waiting for new car purchases sucks!

Just bought one and I hate that gap where you have to wait for the day you can drive it off the lot. Almost as much as I hate that my insurance broker takes her sweet ass time responding to calls and emails. Ugh...

Who ever thought people in the auto industry should be allowed time off at Christmas anyway?!?

Just kidding! (mostly. )

didn't you call your insurance _before_ holidays/car purchase and discuss/check on the "grace" period (in case you prefer to have an insurance that is using brokers)...

Lol no I didn't know for sure that I'd be buying it and the deal was made on DEC 23 about 4:00. This lady will avoid picking up her phone all day and sends everything to voicemail. She also delays answering calls and emails until she's about to close so she only has to answer one question per day. Unfortunately I have to wait 2 more years before I can dump that company without a rate increase

I'm on the same boat. Should get mine tomorrow. It definitely hurts seeing your baby on the lot waiting for you

Most companies provide for automatic coverage of new acquisitions for a few days. This is something you could check long before actually buying. The Insurance Industry recognizes that if you buy a car on a weekend you might not be able to reach a middleman until Monday.

Waiting on ours to arrive at the dealership (hate the delays being seen in-transit) but around insurance, I've never seen a dealership release a vehicle without evidence of insurance (or a binder at least faxed from ones insurance company/broker). Since they are plating the new vehicle (or transferring a plate) they are required to have proof of insurance to plate (in our province).

After purchasing my vehicle a couple of weeks ago, I went out to the car to leave and then realized I hadn't insured it. I went back inside and used the salesman's laptop to set up the insurance. After I was done with that the salesman told me my company automatically insures a new car for up to 30 days after it is first purchased. I guess that's why the dealer wasn't worried...

I guess I'm lucky! I just call my insurance company (USAA) on a 800 number, and they fax proof of insurance dieectly to the dealer before I pick up the new car. All I need is the vin #. I get the car right away, and the paperwork catches up later.

Know how you feel. Mine had to be transferred from another dealer only 75 miles away. Took an entire week to get the car!! Once they have you on the hook, you are theirs.
