F-150 production to be slowed down??!

Did people see the article on the forum about the f-150. Ford will need to act fast, we need to make sure this vehicle sells. They are not selling as well.

http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2...ing-f-150.html

Ford needs a diesel engine NOW. Not in 2017. Ford needs a 10 speed fuel efficient trany to be hands down the best in fuel economy. People are looking at Rams and my Ford Stocks don't like that!

As Henry Ford said (slightly modified).

You can pick any color you want, as long as it's white!

Respectfully disagree.

IMHO there's nothing in that press release, or any other market data, indicating Ford is losing meaningful sales to the new Ram 150-class diesel.

IMHO in the 150 class diesel will always be a small market niche, most folks will recognize that the economics simply don't work out compared to gas for the way they use their light truck. On the RAM the diesel is a $4,300 upgrade from gas, all other things being equal. It'll likely be about the same for the F150.

Starting to see Aluminum f-150 everywhere!!<<< the linked post is a F150 gas vs Ram 150 diesel comparison

The vast majority of F150 sales go to folks that don't haul heavy loads, don't keep 'em for 200k miles, and don't want to mess with diesel and DEF at the pump.

What is a good reputable site to see Sales? I want the f-150 sales for 2016.

Old thread but I'll throw my 2c in, FWIW. The F150 does not need a diesel. I only have a thousand miles on my 2016 F150 with the 2.7L and this thing pulls like a horse. Seriously, it is strong and overall mileage is almost 25 MPG in stop and go traffic with the AC on most of the time.. I think folks were scared of the aluminum and that has hurt sales a bit.
Edit: I forget where I saw it but the ten speed F150 deliveries are on hold at this time. Not certain what the problem is. A transmission cooler line failure has surfaced in some 2017 Superdutys.

here is a great technical write up on the 10 speed w.r.t ratios and shift elements. way better than the ZF 9 speed with it's abysmal downshift reaction time.. comparible to the ZF 8 speed.

Saturation Dive: Ford 10 Speed Transmission Power Flow

"The genius of this design is the use of an intermediate shaft which is connected to 3 of the 6 shift elements. This intermediate shaft allows for 10 well spaced ratios between the highest and lowest gears, and also simplifies the hydraulic system of the transmission because hydraulic power for half the shift elements goes through one rotating shaft. This kind of design is far too complex to be totally invented by a human because there are simply too many permutations and combinations to consider when evaluating a power flow. Therefore candidate designs are typically brute forced by computers and subsequently short listed and refined by carbon based life forms. The use of such an intermediate shaft that is not directly connected to any of the planetary gear elements is truly unique, and leads me to believe that the transmission synthesis software used at Ford is a step or two ahead of the transmission synthesis software used by the other big boys of transmission design. There are patent disclosures out there from ZF with 4 gear sets and 6 clutches that do yield 10 forward ratios and 1 reverse, but the ratio spacing is rather less than optimal. In US Patent #8465390 , ZF has disclosed a power flow which has ten forward ratios, but 5th and 6th gears ratios are practically equal to each other, and so are the 8th and 9th gear ratios. Additionally there are 3 open shift elements for any given gear ratio, thereby the transmission concept disclosed in this patent would have a lower efficiency than the Ford design."

An aside on this, the transmission was jointly developed by Ford and GM. Possibly to wean or differentiate themselves from ZF Friedrichshafen.
The major difference between Ford's and GM's come into play in the PCM software.

Phew those numbers re-assure me. Ford needs to make sure people know that aluminium was the way to go.

As sales numbers indicate, the Ford positive-hype continues to be quite successful in spite of the Chevy negative-hype.

Recent events notwithstanding, 'negative-campaigning' isn't always successful with the American 'buying public'.

But then, recent events also suggest that Chevy won't have any problem with 'back-tracking' or 'apparent contradiction' as they move to more aluminum body-content, a move very likely in their future.

This is what I was looking for a comparison for each month for the last couple of years. I can sleep on both ears. The only thing I don,t like is that apparently now the F_150 cost more to make and that's hurting Ford profits.

Ford F-Series Sales Numbers, Figures, Results

The Fiesta... sales are down... as well as the Focus... but small car sales in general are down so no need to be worried.

Wonder if profits on Police Interceptors are good??? I should go visit Ford Corporate, tour and ask all these questions lol
