Oil Smell in Cabin

Has anyone experiend a burning oil smell in the cabin. I have a 2013 SE that is four weeks old with 3,000 miles and this problem just started.

When the vehile is moving the smell dramatically reduces, it's when the vehicle sits at a light or especially after you park it for 30 minutes, then start it again. I plan to drop it at the dealer tomorrow morning.

I have a 2013 Titanium 2.0 and I noticed this after buying on November 30th. It has not gone away. One thing to note is our cabin filters are under the wiper cowl like the Focus and Audi / VW cars of earlier years. This tends to bring in more engine "smells" I think compare to "behind the glovebox" style cabin filters

Have you guys checked your oil level?

This smell could be the rust proofing and not oil burning.

Is it actually burning oil? Is the oil level going down?

If there is no actual engine oil being burnt it might be something else. Check all other fluid levels and make sure none of low. If you can't find anything it might be worth bringing it to a dealer - something could be heating up and giving off the smell that isn't made to heat up.

I had this problem in another car when my valve cover gasket was leaking. Oil could be dripping onto the exhaust manifold and burning. I replaced it and the smell was gone after the residual oil burnt off.

Did you figure it out, jjkerner? Exactly as you say, if I stop somewhere for a few minutes it gets much worse. I'd characterize it as a fuel/oil smell. I've taken mine to the dealership and was blown off. (Three times.) I drafted a letter to the Consumer Protection Division before I discovered this site--I'm wondering whether Ford has come up with a fix? (Or at least acknowledged a problem???)

I have a 2013 escape se 2.0 and have been having the problem for over a year and 12,000 miles Have taken it to the dealer twice. First time they could not duplicate the problem. 2nd time they said they did smell something like burning oil. After keeping it 2 days searching for leaks, checking with ford engineers and driving a similar vehicle in for service they concluded that the smell was normal because the turbo operates very hot. They did nothing to fix it.

No it isn't normal. I have 22,000 miles on my FE and I've never had a burned oil smell. Small oil leaks can be tough to find. Try another dealer. BTW does your FE have undercoating?
