This was from last year. Took a road trip to pick up this chassis for a project I am working on. ND to PA, empty on the way out I got 24-25 mpg. Loaded on the way back I got 17-18 mpg. I limited myself to 70 mph and ran premium fuel (91-93 octane). I didn't scale it, but I would guess the trailer and chassis weighed no more than 2000 lbs. the Escape handled it fine.

The big issue I had was having to fill up every 200 miles on the return trip. I was tempted to take my 1 ton diesel pickup and load it in the back, but I decided this would be more comfortable. Towing I really didn't save much in Gas money compared to the truck. If I did it again It would be a toss up on which one to take. If I did it with the escape again, I would get a hitch that has the clamp that tightens itself in the receiver. I got really tired of listening to the hitch rattle. Even loaded it rattled.

My son's 2014 with towing package handled with ease a moderately loaded 5x10 UHaul trailer from DC to Atlanta (the 6x12 might have required mirror extensions even though UHaul's web site will allow you to rent one with the Escape towing it). Got about 18 mpg and like bhaugen had to fill up every 200 miles or so. I used shims to keep the receiver from rattling. I have a 2016 with towing and I put the receiver on to check fit, it's just as loose as with the 2014. Tight fit with the receiver on my old 96 Tahoe, you would think 2" means 2".

I have pulled a fairly fully loaded 6x12 UHaul trailer with my Escape - definitely fuller than a 5x10 would hold. Engine was working hard, but never felt like it was struggling. I recommend S mode to prevent gear hunt. Easily able to hit 70mph with it loaded. Handled better full than empty and I find the hitch rattle when empty annoying. Gas mileage sucked, but I was going from Reston, VA to a southern suburb of Baltimore and back so I didn't use an entire tank. I want to say it was around 15, but it was close to a year ago that I did it.

Actually, I pulled a 6x12 about two months ago as well. The trip was only about 10 miles each way. Trailer was truly fully loaded, along with a good part of the car, so heavier than the first time. However, there was an accident on the highway so most of the trip on the loaded direction was stop and go at very low speeds.

My 2016 Titanium 2.0L with towing package. Donated the Viking pop up camper this morning to Cars for Hearts/Purple Heart Foundation. Almost changed my mind since it towed so well - 22 mpg over 55 miles of city/highway to the auction house.

Towing

I use a 900L tank for watering the garden out at the farm. Now just need some a little more ground clearance on the old Escape...

What goes over Canadian Rocky Mountain passes with 2100lbs? With 2 adults, a 10 & 13 year old plus 170lbs in the cargo area? The Escape does, with 11.2L per 100KM I might add.
