FOCCCUS talk. Let's talk

I'm wanting to get a good thread about all of the things we can do using the FOCCCUS.

I'm not going to go into the specifics of hardware (bluetooth, USB, etc)

Just the options that pertain to the FE and their results, if known.

I'll start with the obvious/most-sought-after and hopefully others can chime in from here.

1) Global Open/Close. (This allows you to open and close your windows using your keybog) Requirements are that you must have one-touch window switches for all 4 windows. I'm not sure if you could open/close just the driver window if you only had that one switch. I don't think so, however. Number 184 on FOCCCUS

2) Trailer Sway Control/Trailer Stability Asssit and Towbar. These two are TURNED OFF unless you have the FACTORY Trailer hitch. I turned them on since I installed the OEM hitch. There is much debate on whether or not this is automatically turned on when a trailer is detected. I disagree in the sense that the BCM marks it disabled. Numbers 76 and 199 on FOCCCUS

3) Foglight Function. Some FEs foglights turn off every time the car or headlight switch turns off. Therefore, if you wanted the foglights on everytime the headlights came on you had to press the switch on the dash. Changing this setting on FOCCCUS from "Foglights US" to "Foglights" will remember the witch setting when the car is turned on and off. You will be able to run the parking lights with foglghts, low and high beams with foglights too. As long as the switch is left on. Number 18 on FOCCUS.

IF anyone has any input on the following, I'd be interested.

Emergency brake light function. There is speculation that turning this one will cause the brake lights or hazard lights to flash when braking hard. Has anyone tested this? Number 106 on FOCCCUS

Rearview camera. I do not have the factory camera. I installed an aftermarket one with the lockpick. I'm unable to use the guide lines (Red/yellow/green) because I don't have the factory camera. I'm curious if I turn this on will I enable the guideline function. I may try this and see if it works.

DRLs. It appears you can turn the DRLs on or off. I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO FOLLOW YOUR LOCAL LAWS WITH THIS ONE. I'm only mentioning it because I understand the US Fleet cars have DRLs turned on and second buyers may want them off.

Feel free to add anything else you may know about the FOCCCUS software.

When we took our 2013 SE home for the weekend before they did the used car inspection on it, the foglights would come on with the headlights without pushing the button. However, they did a reset on it to remove the previous owner's settings, phones saved to MFT, etc. and now the foglights have to be turned on manually each time. I thought maybe I was mistaken but I distinctly remember being excited about starting the car Saturday night to go to Wal-Mart and looking at the dash to see the foglight indicator was on, and the foglights were on as well. I had the same outcome when leaving Wal-Mart, I looked down and the foglight indicator once again was on without any input from me. I did not push the button. Call me crazy but I swear on my grandfathers grave that it happened before they did the reset.

This is a great idea for a thread! Unfortunately I haven't received my OBD2 scanner, I bought it on amazon but it is taking forever to ship.
I can't wait to enable global open and fog lights to remember the last setting.
I always have to turn them on because they don't remember the last setting except one time that I stopped just to fill up the thank and when I turn on the car again the fog lights came on along with the headlights... Weird.
I wish we can enable the camera and video input while driving.

I forget what line item it is, but there is a setting for the rear LED tail lights, if you have them installed. I have not switched mine over for fear of the results. I have the part of my LED's that are located on the rear hatch wired to my license plate lights, so I'm not sure if the BCM would like this.

#49 ·
The rear LED refers to the tail lamp bulb minder.

The system looks for a certain amount of current load and treats anything lower as a bulb being out.
Changing this to LED (which draws about 1/4 of the normal bulb) tells the system to expect a "good" bulb to only draw about .5A.

Great thread @GRNDHOG . My OBD connector due tomorrow with the original goal of setting global open .... can you clue me to the FOCCCUS line number(s) to toggle-off the seat belt warning(s)?

I'm a 'don't-need-the-reminder' religious belt wearer except when I make the frequent run between multiple gates on rural private driveways where I have to hop out to open/close 'em.... would rather not have all the dinging during that exercise. Yeah, I know there's a sequence to at least partially disable it with the belts & key ... lookin for the easy out ;-)

Wondering too if there's a line to set:
+ when ya turn on the AC the default is NOT "recirculate" (I have the dual-zone auto AC)?
+ remove Sirius from the scroll lists for audio source selection (I choose not to use the service)?
... like global open, small stuff to add to my convenience ;-)
TIA

BTW, a minor nit ...
... low and high beams with foglights too. As long as the switch is left on. Number 18 on FOCCUS......
If it matters, running fogs with high+low as setup on the FE is illegal in TX and many other states (no more than 4 forward-facing white beams allowed); that's why the US setup turns 'em off when High comes on ;-)

So to use the FOCCCUS software can you use an ELM327 or do you have to have the wired version? Does anyone know with the ELM327 does the toggle switch need to be added the same as the wired version? Anyone who has used the FOCCCUS software, is it as easy as it sounds? Change the parameter where you want and update it?

#10 ·
I used this one which is a wired USB adapter. I have heard that the wireless ones will work but some have difficulty, and must make multiple attempts to "write" the settings. I was able to enable the Global Open option in one quick Read, Change, Write. It was very simple.

Technically a lot of newer cars don't have foglights, they have driving lights. Like the newer Sierra's, those things will blind the heck out of you, that's a driving light, it's designed to give you a broader viewing angle. A foglight casts its beam low to "get under the fog" and keep the glare lower than eye level, which is what a headlight does, it puts the glare at eye level and makes it hard to see....which is what a driving light does also. A foglight casts a long low beam, think of an HID projector, same basic concept.

#12 ·
So all I need to do is download this software, go in, change the parameters I want to, and see if I can get the ELM327 to reprogram my bcm with the desired changes?

@GRNDHOG , bummed that the thread has already taken-off on the tangent you asked to avoid and I apologize for my part in hijacking off your intended purpose ..... I really was looking forward to your intended focus (pardon the pun) of a 'clean' thread sharing experience about what many of those sometimes cryptic 'short title' FOCCCUS line descriptions really do (the result) when toggled in the FE application. Thanks for trying.

Eh, it happens. Ideally, the initial post would be like a wiki that others could edit (other forums have this, too) Since we can't edit posts ourselves, I'll just kindly ask bjeans to edit the original post if we get any more "things" we can add. :D

#15 ·
My bad, I got it off topic here.

#16 ·
Meandering around a bit off-topic is part of normal conversation in real life and here. We don't want to tell people that unless they stay strictly on topic not to post.

That said, for this thread, if anyone wants their own post(s) to be deleted, tell me the post number(s) so I don't have to search-n-guess, and I'll delete it/them plus the post where you listed your post(s) to be deleted. : ) (Who's on first?)

#17 ·
Please delete post #'s 2,9,13,14. Thanks

It monitors your heart rate in order to cut the throttle back to keep you from passing out if the skinny peddle is left matted too long.
This is only switched on with the 2.0l.>:D

Enabled the global open and close on the first attempt. Wow this is great! Even better: this works during a factory remote start session. This will be very useful in the summer here in Florida. A/C blasting AND windows down to blow out the hot air all before I even get to the vehicle will be a huge convenience!

There were quite a few other interesting settings that I just don't have the guts to try for fear of creating a $36k paperweight...

#26 ·
Technically you can flash the PCM and Instrument panel with updated calibrations, but based on my limited Google research, its incredibly risky. If something went wrong, you'd need a tow to the dealer for them to fix your new rolling brick. Not even worth considering for me.

#27 ·
I'd like to know how many people on this forum have successfully enabled global open. So far I've only heard success stories and not a single case of someone needing to tow a paperweight. I have, however, heard a few cases where it took more than one try to save the new settings. I think I'll be the newest member to attempt this mod. Hopefully I'm not the first to be calling a to truck!

Got the USB ELM today (running on WIN 7 Pro 64-bit Dell laptop if interested).

For grins ran FORScan and found no DTCs as expected.

Read the BCM then saved my baseline settings to file using FOCCCUS; then toggled #18 and #184 to enable 'anytime foglights' and 'global open/close'; then clicked "Write to BCM"....

I'll admit a substantially elevated pulse as it took 4 tries to get 100% on the write-progress bar (stopping and popping a window 'error ...vbn' 3 times but making farther progress before the error each time).

End result is not a brick but is an FE with foglights available with high-beams and global open/close windows from my on-key lock/unlock buttons .... very cool!!!

(FYI the iSaddle ELM327 V1.5 USB Diagnostic Scanner Auto Scanner OBD2 II Car Diagnostic Tool Auto Scan Tool sold by "Saddle Ltd" on Amazon was received with a Trojan horse virus on the driver disk detected by AVG. Just checked and the item seems to be off Amazon as of today, but caveat emptor; solution: ditch the disk and let Windows auto-find a driver online - it worked fine and is virus-free ;-)

Also, there were a slew of DTCs after the FOCCCUS write - cleared 'em using FORScan, no worries.

Yep, I have a bluetooth elm, 2 USB elms and a serial port elm. Never have used the supplied disc. I usually plug the device in, let it do it's thing, then find the device drivers manufacturer and go to their home page and check for the latest drivers. I plan on converting at least one to read MS CAN.

Tested - FOCCCUS #131

I changed the setting of FOCCCUS line "#131 Front passenger seatbelt reminder" to the option "Without Beltminder".

The effect is that the FE no longer gives seatbelt warning audio dings when you stop the running car, get out of the driver's seat, then get back in and continue driving; also will not remind you to refasten if you undo your belt while driving. The seatbelt light on the instrument panel does light-up in these situations - just no audible dings.

DON'T SET THIS OPTION IF YOU NEED REMINDING TO FASTEN YOUR SEATBELT !!!

Please see this post http://www.fordescape.org/forum/379377-post6.html for the very specific reason I wanted to disable the Beltminder.

Disabling Beltminder does NOT eliminate the dings you get when you first get in the car and start it if you don't have your belts fastened ;-)
