The Winter came, and we ended up purchasing some winter tires. I had never really thought about winter tires before, but since it's my wife's car...I want her to be safe on her drive to work, and her all-seasons were wearing out, and by getting the winter tires, that should give us one more year on the all-seasons! We decided on the Cooper Discoverer True North winter tires. Chose these for a few reasons: I have had good experiences with Cooper Tires to this point, the price was great, and they were 3PMSF (3 Peak Mountian Snowflake) rated with a great tread warranty on them! Plus, I loved the more aggressive tread design on them too! We purchased them in a 235/55/R18 (up from the 235/50/R18) that came stock, and the fit is perfect with no rubbing, and they look awesome!

For more details on the tires I got and a good comparison, as well as my more detailed posts, see the following links:

We took the Escape on a trip up to Ludington, Michigan in early March for some winter fun, and it did great! Definitely got a bit snowy, but had a blast skiing and snowshoeing up north and along Lake Michigan! We hit Ludington State Park for some snow shoeing and Caberfae Peaks for some skiing!

Also took the Escape this past week and got the winter tires switched back out to the all season! Took it to Discount Tire to do the swap! Should be able to get 1 more summer out of the factory all- seasons. About 5/32nds of an inch left on em!

As for one winter with the Cooper Discoverer True Norths, I am extremely impressed with them! I would highly recommend them, for the price point and the performance of them! These tires were just as quiet as the all seasons that were on the Escape before, but handled the winter conditions greatly! They also have worn very well so far, so should be able to get plenty of winter seasons out of these tires! This was my first forte into winter tires, and man am I sold on them, especially these True Norths!

But, back to the Michelins for the rest of the spring, summer, and fall! And come next spring, we will be looking into purchasing the Cooper Discoverer SRX All Seasons in a 235/55/R18! They seem to review very well, and I love the price point of Cooper Tires compared to competitors! Along with great performance and a great warranty! The SRXs should have a 65000 mile tread warranty, so that is great! Plus, to this point, I have had great experiences with Cooper, so I will continue to trust them!

My wife got a VersaBoard for this past Christmas, which is a 12 ft long paddle board/kayak hybrid, and we definitely could not fit this into any of our currently vehicles and we know this summer that we will want to take it all over the place, so we decided a roof rack is what was needed! We ended up going with the Yakima 60" JetStream Bars with the TimberLine Towers. We got the Yakima JayLow kayak mount for the VersaBoard!

We ended up going with Yakima because we also have a Ranger which we are getting the Overhaul HD for, and figured it was easiest to just stick with one brand for compatibility and interchangeability between the vehicles!

This past weekend we also managed to get them installed! Overall, the install went pretty dang easy and seamless, taking about 1-2 hours (as we had some mess ups that slowed us down). We got the rack from etrailer and got a great deal on their best price garauntee, so we also went ahead and watched their installation video.

The video overall covers the install pretty well, but the biggest thing it leaves out is the loosening/removal of bolts which tighten the towers to the roof rails and cross bars! We missed this step and struggled for a bit until we realized what needed to be done! If you read through the instructions, it does show the removal/loosening of the bolts, however the instructions are only pictures, so it wasn't the most clear there. Besides that, everything else went according to plan, and the end product looks great in my opinion! Even sportier!

Added on some stickers yesterday to the Escape from the travels it has had! All around Michigan and out to Maine!

We also will need to take the Escape into the dealer soon for a bit of a check over. Since we swapped back to the all seasons, the steering has felt extremely stiff/tight, like far too much. And it definitely doesn't feel like it did before. On top of that, you can now feel every bump and undulation in the road and it moves the wheel in your hand. It used to be nice and smooth, but something is definitely up. My first thought was something was wrong with the power steering? But maybe it is just simply out of alignment? Or maybe the "Nibble" system has gone bad? Not quite sure! I haven't had time to dive into it, and it is still under warranty, so will probably just let the dealer deal with it...

Additionally, the Auto Start/Stop system failed again yesterday morning in the middle of an intersection for my wife. The onscreen message came up that the car could not restart and to shift to park and manually restart. Fortunately, this is not the first time it has happened and in my wife's words, she's "gotten quite fast with restarting" because that has happened so many time, but if the Escape will be in the dealer anyways, I will also have them take a look at that too and hopefully put a stop to it!

The full thread on the Auto Start/Stop issue is located here: https://www.fordescape.org/forum/for...e-message.html

Anyways, will keep y'all updated on the findings and further progress of the Escape!
