Progress so far on the "rally lights" project.

Almost ready to start mounting the lights. Crash bar painted (I might have to paint a little farther down the sides), radiator plastic surround is cut and trimmed, and the bumper is cut although I have to clean up the edges yet.

How long does it take to get the bumper off? I need to do that myself sometime.

Takes me about a half hour if I remember what I'm doing and don't take more apart than needed.

What little time I've had to work on the rally lights this week has mostly been spent on boring wiring stuff, but got it all wrapped up tonight and interior put back together. Next steps, bumper work and some tweaking on the lights themselves.

This probably isn't much use to anyone else but me, but I like having a digital copies around in case I lose my paper one. Plus you never know.

Drew up a wiring diagram of the lights. There are two circuits, one for the orange lights on the left and one for the white lights on the right. I tapped into the parking lights and high beams at the BCM and included a picture of the plugs in case any one want to find the wires.

The big reveal. The rally lights are all finished.

At least for now. I'm not satisfied with the mesh I used so will be upgrading that in the future, but that's my only complaint so far. Loving how it turned out.

Looks good! What's wrong with the mesh?

Sorry for the really long delay in replying. I accidentally logged myself out and couldn't for the life of me remember my password and was too lazy to reset it.

I don't like how small and fine the mesh is. It's a personal taste thing but I want something a little more substantial. Considering maybe going with an ABS plastic mesh but haven't decided.

That's fair. I have two spot lights and a flood light bar hidden in my bumper right now but I lose about 1/3 of the light because they are partially covered by solid plastic. I like the idea of having a grille type material to put them behind and really like the placement you have and removal of the middle bar on the bumper. Probably going to steal that idea.

I'm hoping having grille material like this will also keep leaves and other crap out from between the intercooler and radiator. It was half full so I don't expect is was getting as much flow as it should have been anymore.

And by all means use this idea! I stole it from the Focus guys.

Question for you regarding the HID retrofit. Are you planning on using auto lights? If you are, is there a worry about the ballasts burning out quicker?

Yes I am. I guess if the auto headlights turn on and off several times at low light but not quiet low enough, it might not be great for the ballasts and igniters, but quality units can turn on hundreds of thousand of times without issue so I'm not really concerned. Plus, I have my light sensor covered so when I have the switch in Auto, it basically just acts like DRL's.

Decided to change how the LED's will be shaped on the Escape headlights. Not everything is mounted, obviously not painted, and I need to buy a couple short LED strips but the headlights are taking shape.
