It could be to do with the way the turbo wastegate operates on later model vehicles. My understanding is they're normally open (older turbos the wastegate is closed unless there is enough boost generated by the turbo to open it.) From what I've read, that's to help the catalytic converter to warm up to operating temperature faster. It does result in a louder idle when first started cold.

Yes i noticed the exhaust was louder on the 1.5 last year when test driving. Sounds good and healthy for a small motor. MY 2.0 with the secondary cat removed is now the same way.
