Hey All,

I'm the owner of an 09 and a 17 Escape. My 17 Escape got a new engine back in October of last year due to a faulty oil filter. Now, when I'm driving, the car continues to accelerate on its own for up to 10 seconds after removing my foot from the pedal. I put the car in park the other day and the RPM shot up to 2500 randomly for about 7 seconds. The best way to replicate the issue is just to tap the pedal and it usually starts up. The engine came with a full warranty when it was replaced by the dealership.

My questions are:
  1. What is the most likely cause of this?
  2. Could this be covered in theory by the engine warranty? I did not have this issue before the new engine.

1. Throttle position sensor, or something downstream that is feeding it erroneous info would be my guess, and it's only a guess.
2. Yes. The dealer should correct the problem at no charge to you warranteed or not. Have them tow it. I would not drive it in that condition
