Hello all hoping for a little insight here. So last week my wife was on her way to work and the car randomly stalled out at a red light. She left it in the parking lot until I was off work to look at it. Upon going to look at the car I found nothing out of the norm, no warning lights ,codes nothing. Soo I pulled out everything was fine, shifting good,no noise ect until... I came up to a red light the car starting bucking and then boom nothing, acted as if it was in neutral and transmission light came on so I got it back off the road. Went to pick it up the next day with a flat bed and the car started up , shifted in reverse fine, and crawled right up on the flat bed perfectly fine,no transmission light or nothing. I'm genuinely confused here any help is appreciated.

So the car currently has 112000 on it, we bought it at 87900 and we were told at the time of purchase this was performed as well as the oil,oil filter, anti freeze ect. I have a scanner and started the car up and no codes, no Trans fault light on or anything and I do not want to drive it to see if it will come back on.

Scanner is an autel just bought last year.
Can you give a model number? Is it an actual scan tool or just a code(s) reader?

As for the trans itself, maybe a drain and fill and try to catch the fluid in a container allowing the draining fluid to run through a filter such as a coffee filter. If it has very fine particulate (in addition to larger particulate), the valve body and pump may be contaminated.

The filter itself, is not easily changed. While shutdown, the particulate caught in the filter may fall out into the sump and the vehicle operates correctly until the filter plugs again. Small particulate will find it's way through the filter and cause valving/solenoids to fail.

This is just conjecture but may give you a plan of attack.

Good morning , sorry I just saw your reply it is an actual scan tool (ms906) I'm going to drain and fill the transmission today and I will report back with my findings. Again started the car yesterday and no codes,no Trans warning light, shifted threw the gears just fine(did not actually move the car).

I had a similar problem on my 2013 Escape 1.6 L . The transmission failed at 140k miles. The repair shop said that this was a very common problem on the Escape as well as the Transit Vans. In fact, the shop could not rebuild or find a replacement trans due to the high demand of those replacement transmissions. I found a rebuilder on Ebay in South Carolina that had rebuilt units in stock. Unfortunately the engine blew a head gasket within 10k miles of getting a new trans. The engine also has a flawed design that provided to little gasket area between cylinders to provide a reliable seal . The bottom line is that the Escape was a great SUV for about 139k miles.. Then it turned out to be the least reliable auto that I have ever owned. I decided to replace the Escape with a Tesla.. No more transmission, head gasket, timing belt, oil changes, emission, exhaust, turbo failures to deal with on an over engineered drive train that is designed by the best engineers on the planet to go a minimum of 1 million miles. And when the CyberTruck gets to high volume production , say good bye to the Ford F150 being the leader in pickup sales. The Cyber Truck will eat fords lunch!

I feel your pain, we went threw the head gasket issue 2 days after we purchased it not even 2 years ago, car had 86,000 on it when we bought it and just turnt over 110000. I do not know if at this point I even want to keep dealing with it. Very disheartening.
Yep.. When I looked at replacing the head gasket, I found out about the flawed / defective design and decided to get rid of it. I had purchased the Escape new and it operated flawlessly for the 1st 139k miles. Unfortunately I tended to keep my Fords for a min. of 250k miles with little to no problems.. Heck I put 450k miles on my 86 Mustang GT and only needed to change the clutch..The Escape ruined the Ford Brand for me. Good luck..

My friend whom works at a transmission shop brought his scan tool over and checked the parameters on it and don't quote me but I believe it's supposed to have about 40-48 psi... my pump was pushing 3 .

Appreciate that comeback.

When (and if) torn down, it would be interesting to know if the pump (and possibly the valve body) was fouled due to a plugged filter.

Suggestion, if you have it rebuilt or have an exchange installed, consider an inline filter installation in the cooling line trans to cooler. This will hopefully collect normal wear particulates (college word) to be filtered before entering the trans on the return line as the main filter is not actually serviceable.

The inline filter is serviceable. Talk with your TECH or SHOP.

Also, there are many upgrades for the 6F35 from outside vendors. You have a TRANS guy so you are ahead of the game.

Let us know as I will learn from your experiences. I am behind on current tech ....

It is most definitely getting an inline filter and I will report back with my findings, since the wife wants to keep it I'm going to go ahead and tear the bad trans apart and rebuild it and have it as a backup.

I was going to put one on mine (2013) but was afraid it might affect the drive-train warranty. Of course after 60,000 miles, it isn't going to help a lot.

But you will be starting fresh.

Yes sir... after talking to him , and reading up this is a highly common thing with these transmissions, what threw me off is it went with absolutly no warning at all, just at a red light then boom, it was done. But since she likes the car I may as well build one and have a spare on hand, I built the nv4500 in my dodge so it can't be worse then that.

I think this design was meant to be a throw-away as people usually traded the car in. Now people are holding on to them and of course wear is going to take it's toll. The filter is the dumbest thing to me. Once it is plugged, the party is over.

There are a bunch of aftermarket parts makers offering good service updates. Ask your buddy or I can point you to a few.
