Seems like this is a common problem.

Our 2016 backup camera about half the time goes blue screen and we get the message that the camera is not available.

I know on other Ford automobile models have issued recalls concerning this issue. (There is currently one out on the 2015 Mustang, which I have)

Has there been any communication from Ford on this issue?

Are there any suggestions that might solve this issue?

There haven't been any recalls on the 2013-2019 Escapes for this and you are long past the warranty period (3/36) for this unless you purchased a Ford Premium ESP (we have one on the daughter's 2014 and the camera was covered under it).
Image sensors and modules go bad, the camera isn't hard to replace.
Many third party units are available for this if you don't want to pay the $500 Ford part cost.
