The AGM is an H6 vs the conventional which is a T4.
T4 dimensions: 6 15/16" W x 6 7/8" H x 8 1/8" L
H6 dimensions: 6 7/8" W x 7 9/16"H x 12 1/16" L

Basically around 1/2" taller and 4" longer, the battery hold down is on the base, the top bracket is a shield.

I'll have to take a closer look at the hold down part then. As of right now it barely moves with the cardboard shims I used 😂.

Thank you so much to every person who contributed to this thread. I desperately needed all of this information.

I bought an "almost 3 years old" 2020 Ford Escape Titanium Hybrid, and immediately got Deep Sleep and other messages.

[If this is the wrong place to post, please let me know.]

I bought this exact vehicle for Flat Towing behind the RV. I bought a Demco Stay in Play Duo Brake System, and while driving 1 hour home, discovered that that system uses the Escape 12V battery to power the brake system (even in Neutral Tow mode), and before I got home, the car battery was completely dead. Luckily, the car wasn't locked, so I could get inside. Would not charge from my external battery charger. None of the Ford manuals tell you it is a Lead Acid battery (I know that now, two days later). Finally jumped from another vehicle, drove for 10 minutes and it works.

A few hours before that happened, I got the "Deep Sleep" warning in the Ford App.

Question - I will definitely replace the factory 45Ah battery with the 70Ah AGM. But, does anyone know if that will solve my Demco brake system issue and give me enough "Neutral Tow" but with Brake System power for a full day of Driving?

I can guarantee your deep sleep issues will be resolved with the AGM battery. I think the brake system issue will resolve itself once you get a battery that works for the car(AGM). We don't tow or use brake coaching but I know the battery they provided with the car definitely doesn't work enough for it. Of course they refuse to acknowledge their mistake. Just to be safe I now have a jump pack in the back of my wife's Escape.

Add us to the AGM switch gang -changed on January 5th after our first experience of the battery dying in the cold. It has resolved Deep Sleep, foot activated liftgate issues and passenger door Intelligent Access issues for us.

picked up car from dealer.
I gave them the SSM 49574 number, they said "you were on the right track, but that was the wrong number, we did SSM 49990. (it reads exactly like 49574)
They reprogrammed the ABS which also programmed BECM, SOBDMC and PCM.
tech cleared codes, monitored battery drain for 75 minutes and its drawing .038a which is less than the .050a called out in the SSM.
The service advisor said something about people hanging the key too close to the car and the car keeps talking to the key, etc.
Did not replace the battery.

I really think there might be 2 problems in this thread. many complain about the car sending deep sleep messages over ford app.
we have never seen that alert, what we found 2 times is we go to start car and its totaly dead. (that is what is called out when you read SSM 49990).
And I know I have left car sit at boat dock for 7 days and it starts with no problems so something inside ours was not falling asleep 2x now.

Hope this helps someone.

Thanks to everyone contributing to this thread. I’ve spent several days trying to learn FORScan and read and understand all of the postings (to the limit of my current ability).

I just bought a used 2020 Escape.

Please help with exact settings for 2020 Ford Escape Hybrid Titanium – Changing from Factory battery (BXT-99RT4-A/ Varta 43Ah 390CCA T4 Case) to AGM Battery (EverStart Platinum AGM Battery, Group H6 (12Volt/70Ah/760CCA)).

The Videos and instructions online provide everything I need to physically change the battery. Now, I need to know the best settings for FORScan.

Current FORScan settings show the following under the BdyCM module:
BMS Configuration LIN (Choices are N/A, LIN, and PWM)
Battery Target State of Charge 120%
Battery Technology Type AGM (Choices are Flooded and AGM)
Battery Type Factory Varta 43Ah 390CCA T4 Case
Battery Type Normal Varta 43Ah 390CCA T4 Case

Note that these settings say AGM even though I’ve looked at the physical battery and it is NOT an AGM battery.

Question #1 – Are these All of the settings that are needed or recommended?

Question #2 – What settings need to change and to what?

For Battery Type (not sure whether to change Factory or Normal or Both), here are the closest choices:
1 – AGM 60Ah 600CCA H6 Case
19 – Varta 70Ah 600CCA H6 Case
35 – Exide 70Ah 600CCA H6 Case

Question #3 – After changing out the battery and then changing the settings above, then I would do the “Battery Monitoring System Reset”, Correct? Anything else?

Question #4 – People talk about a BMS Battery “Days in Service” but I can’t find that setting. Where should I look in FORScan (I’d like to see what it is “now” before changing the battery)?

Question #5 – I have the Varta T4 Battery right now with lots of Deep Sleep and other battery issues. While the car is running, I see battery voltage of 15.0. Is that Good/Bad? [I’m hoping my Bluetooth OBDLink MX+ with iPhone app will let me monitor the battery charge. I’m using the USB OBDLink EX for programming.]

Thanks for the help.

The dealer replaced my battery with stock battery after many complaints with the issue. I have since had battery sleep mode 2x with new battery(it has never gone completely dead), They manually reset the BSM , simple...car in accessory mode, high beams flashed 5x, then break pedal tapped 3x. I watched them do it. They had it hooked up to their computer but the computer was giving them issues. So after 45 mins of they trying the computer they did it manually. Could have been out of the dealer an hour earlier ...I just got a call saying the ordered a BCM for it to replace the one in there already. I know it's not the main computer, but hopefully it doesn't screw up any of the changes that have been with the Forscan that I did on the car. I have a 2020 Ford Escape Titanium Hybrid and I have been having this issue since I purchased it 4/2020. I know have my own battery tester and a charger/tender that I use to keep things in check. The frustration is CRAZY. I will eventually replace with the AGM battery but that probably won't be til Spring or late spring.

Were you able to figure out these questions? I am also planning on changing out the stock battery with the larger AGM battery. Thanks!

I still need the answers. I believe that knowing the answers before changing is important. No one has answered any of the questions yet in any of the forums I’ve posted in.

That's unfortunate.

My plan once I get my car back (it's at the dealership right now for an unrelated issue) is to set the battery type to AGM, 100% target state of charge, Exide 70ah, then do a reset. Then measure the voltage at the battery with the car 'on'. I have the PHEV, so there is not alternator, but should be a DC to DC converter that takes power from the high voltage battery to charge the 12V battery.

From what I've found is that AGM batteries has a lower maximum float charging voltage than FLA (flooded lead acid). So I think setting it to 100% target state of charge will reduce the float voltage. Maybe it was set to 120% because it was charging a FLA battery with it being set as an AGM like you've found.

I recently posted this on the Deep Sleep thread and wanted to make sure this Battery thread had this information:

There have been so many complaints about the battery and related deep sleep mode issues on this forum, that I recommend registering your complaints on the NHTSA website: Report a Safety Problem | NHTSA
There are already some similar complaints on the website for the 2020 Escape HEV. Maybe Ford will issue a TSB to resolve the issue if many more people take the time to register their complaints. If the problems led to potential safety issues, that information could lead to a NHTSA investigation and possible recall.

finally, someone else with Forscan :). My screen with the 125% looks just like yours.
2020 Escape Titanium Hybrid.
my first small battery went from new to 6/22 before leaving us stone dead. dealer replaced it no questions asked (they know there is a problem)
now at 12/31/22 it was stone dead after setting for just 2 days.
System charges correct.I don't see voltage going over 14.5 or so max.
today when we found it dead I jumped it, than charging it to 100% but that did not take more than 1/2 hour from 0% to 100% with only 15a charger. to me this is an indicator that the battery is bad again.
I will call the dealer after this weekend holiday. I would unload it but the 2023's are not out yet (new body style) and only thing dealer is showing in stock is Plugin's, no way they are worth what they are charging for them
so maybe another warranty battery. (or spend $250 and put my own in).

I see your battery type shows the larger one, did you change that yourself with forscan? did you change both lines?
is there a battery reset in forscan?
Thanks.
Hello, sorry!
I have not been on the forum for several months, the fact is that I am from Russia
I replaced my regular dead battery with an AGM, reset the BMS myself in forescan and changed the battery type in the settings
Everything works perfectly!
Too bad I can't go to the Ford dealer so I have to do everything myself thanks to google, youtube and this awesome forum!

You are certainly not alone in this solution my friend. Ford are not interested in the AGM battery fix and just keep replacing the smaller problem 12v battery under warranty, sometimes 3 times in one year.

That is exactly how the service tech did mine as he couldn't get the shop laptop to work correctly..He could have saved me 45 mins of wait time....LOL it works I have done it on a 2017 Ford Fusion Hybrid and my 2020 Ford Escape Hybrid. I watched him do it
This method works for some Escapes with BMS but certainly does not work for all models as this guy in the video suggests.....he is misleading viewers, probably unintentionally. There is also another method involving pushing the rear foglight switch 5 times and hazard lights 3 times that only works for certain models.
This has been dscussed many times on these forums with members trying both methods and saying that in the end they have had to do it with Forscan or get a dealer with a scan tool to reset it as I did last year after replacing my battery.
Perhaps it works on Hybrids but I don't know why if the BMS operates in the same way🤔

It worked on my Hybrid and I watched the tech do it on my car. No Forscan needed on my car , 2017 fusion hybrid and my sons 2020 F350 diesel

That's great, but my point was that it does not work on all Escapes contradicting what the guy said in the video in #155.
Didn't work for my 2017 model or many others who have posted here regarding BMS resets after battery replacements.
