2020 Ford Escape Window Control Buttons Chrome Plating Defect

12015 Views 32 Replies 21 Participants Last post by  Jaxpony
Has anyone besides myself had an issue with the chrome plating on the window control buttons flaking/chipping off? I rarely use my windows since I bought it in Aug 2020 and last week I was going through a drive-thru at my bank and rolled down my window. When I touched the button to roll down the drivers side I felt something sharp and uneven on the button. As I investigated it more the chrome plating pin the buttons has chipped away from the button. In fact every button for all the windows is chipping off. I don't ever use those, surely this is a manufacturer defect. Is there a service bulletin issued for this? I can't find anything anywhere related to this problem. Please advise!

Take a piece of done sandpaper (400-600 grit) and remove the chrome plating. Worked for mine. Got tired of cutting up my fingers.

Sent from my rotary phone using Tapatalk.
All of mine are the same, took to dealer yesterday and ordered new ones, hope they last longer?
Ouch! I know that pain. Put some painters tape on the switch til you can get the dealer to replace the switch. They really seem to have cheaped out on this car. Note to self - don’t buy a pandemic car.
Same here with the 2022, maybe same switches from previous models. 2022 Escape SEL Power Window Button Chrome Peeling Off

Yes! It also gave my finger quite a gash! I take such care of my vehicle! This really pissed me off!
Fortunately I’m still under bumper to bumper warranty until July, so I have an appointment to get them replaced in a couple of weeks. I would prefer they be replaced without the trim as I suspect it would only happen again…

Hello everyone! I found the part for extremely cheap! Ford only sells it for around $40. https://parts.ford.com/shop/en/us/electrical/switches/double-window-control-switch-12254413-1?pdp=y
I was honestly expecting it to be around $100 but I'm not complaining. Just ordered it off eBay for around $30 (still OEM) and I will let you all know how it goes.

Yes mine are doing that. At Ford they told me it’s being recalled on the Explorers. Mine will be covered under warranty, but if more escape owners complain they may recall it too?

Don't use this. Ended up being wrong part. Brought the vehicle to my local dealer and they replaced it in 2 hours. Works great now and no more issues. Was covered under warranty.
