I have a 2013 Escape SE. A couple of months ago I started experiencing some occasional static, loud crackling sounds, and a popping noise in the sound system speakers. Usually it would go away after I turned off the car. In December it got much worse; the noises became much more frequent, the sound blasted at the lowest settings, and there were extended periods of no sound. I've found similar Escape owners experiencing the same issues on various websites, some dating back to 2013. Before I head to my local Ford service department I want to make sure there isn't something I can do first.

From memory the ACM (Audio Control Module?) can fail.

This is a symptom of a bad ACM.
It's not a difficult repair, the unit is behind your center stack screen and takes about 20 minutes to change out.
If you get one out of a yard or off eBay, make sure you get one out of a 2013-2015 Escape SE.
