I have intermittent issues with the backup camera on my 2020 Escape Titanium Hybrid. About 50% of the time I get a very distorted view. Dealer checked it out and has ordered a replacement camera. Backordered from Ford. Ugh. I really depend on the camera, especially the cross traffic alert. Anyone know is the backup camera part of Sync 3? I'm hesitant to reboot the Sync3 to see if that would rectify the camera issue. I don't want to have to reset all the Sync 3 settings unnecessarily.

It shouldn’t be. It’s an independent piece of equipment. It just interfaces with the sync 3 system. We saw this issue on an escape we test drove. And it’s the main reason we did not get that particular vehicle.

Mine started doing the same thing intermittently, after the dealer reflashed the PCM and other modules for the Field Service Action. Mine is a little different, in that the vehicle icon, plus sign, and text and the bottom are also distorted, not just the image itself. They're continuing troubleshooting today.

I'll be interested to hear how the camera issue turned out for you.

Dealer just called, said the hotline did confirm an issue with the camera...and as you stated above, it's on backorder until May 29. So...the waiting game begins!

Hate to wait until June, but whatever. Tonight I'm getting a solid blue screen on the camera. First time for that anomaly. "Blue screen of death" maybe?

As of today, my backup camera is totally a mess. Tonight the camera didn't even come on when I was in reverse. Eager to get the camera replaced.

Had exactly the problem on our 2020. Dealer had to replace the camera on the lift gate. Long wait for the part to come in, but working great after the replacement.

We bought a brand new 2020 Escape on Friday (May 1st). Next morning, with only 34 miles on the car, the camera went berserk with a picture similar to what prime cable channels that you weren't paying for looked like in the late 80's. When I tried to make an appointment to get it fixed, the *&^%%$#@ service tech refused to give me an appointment saying instead: "I don't think they even make replacement parts for that yet." Wrong answer and wrong person to be giving it to. Fortunately, the dealership owner agreed with me. Unfortunately for that dealership, there is now one brand new Ford Escape sitting on their lot that they can't sell until possibly August or September (according to what they told me) when the new camera comes in to replace the one they had to take off it to replace mine. They did determine, after about six hours of diagnostics, that it was on the camera's circuit board - not in the head unit, and not in the gear shift interface. New camera fixed the problems.

13 days after I took delivery on the vehicle, I started having the same issue
Obviously, this isn't an isolated case.

I'll be interested in knowing what the dealership says about the delay in getting a replacement camera.

Ugh. My 1-day old 2020 Escape Titanium backup camera show the picture like that of the OP . It worked fine when I test drove it the day before. I did system master reset (from the touch screen menu) and the problem went away. Hope it won't come back.

I don't understand how a Sync master reset could solve this. Everything I've read about "What does a master reset do?" just talks about the infotainment system itself and that any info pertaining to connected phones, presets, etc., will be wiped out. Coincidence, perhaps?

Hi. I am having this same issue with my 2020 Ford Escape I bought on 02/20/20. My backup screen sometimes looks like the picture in the first post of this thread. Sometimes I can get the camera working again by gently banging on the camera with my hand.

A SYNC Master Reset can work for things like phones not being detected, greater than usual lag or stuttering of the interface, and things of that nature. From what I've gathered, this was a bad part from the supplier - a bad circuit card in the camera assembly itself. The replacement cameras are based on an updated design and should not have the same issue. I had mine replaced a week or two ago and have had zero issues since.

Coincidence. The problem is back. But it works again without me doing anything. I noticed that problems appeared (for me) in the evening when it is almost dark outside or in a dimly lit garage. Could be coincidence. I'm going to wait until the problem appears again and bring it in.

The problem is back for me (once). So, master reset is just red herring. When you bring your car in, did the problem still present? Do they need to wait for part?

The messed-up display was happening 9 out of 10 times I put the car in reverse. I presume the dealer was able to replicate, because they quickly ordered a replacement camera assembly. I had to wait about a month for the part to arrive, but once it was replaced (1-2 weeks ago), I haven't had a single issue since.

You won't have to show the dealer your backup camera issue. They are probably quite familiar. Service advisor told me they are having the same issue on most 2020 models including F150 trucks.
It took about 5 weeks for dealer to receive a replacement in my case.
