Hello all, I have a question. Has anyone on here tried using block seal, either Barsleak or maybe K-D brand, for a coolant leak (i.e. head gasket leak)? I used to work at a NAPA store and we had farmers and regulars that swore by the stuff for small internal engine coolant leaks. Had one old timer tell me that he always put in a bottle of stop leak even with no issues and he never had a head gasket problem in 30 plus years of driving.

I used this stuff in a different vehicle that suffered a severe overheat due to the thermostat locking shut. CRC Fiberlock Head Gasket & Block Repair 946ml It's sold under a different brand in the US, but searching for "fiberlock" should find it. It's supposed to be a permanent fix. I drove the vehicle around for a couple of weeks and it had certainly fixed the cooling system issues- head gasket appeared to be leaking and pressurising the cooling system.

We have K&W fiberlock sealant here, i've heard good things about the fiberlock tech used in it. I'm not having an issue yet (116k miles) but just trying to be proactive.
Yes, that's the one. I did many hours of searching before deciding on that product.

Your particular model is not renown for coolant leak issues so hopefully you will never have to source something like Barsleak.

That's been SOP for many years. As a green apprentice back in the 70s I noticed those tabs in replacement long blocks from GM when installing block heaters, older mechanic told me that's an age old practice at every factory. Not a worry there.

I consider those products snake oil!
Agreed.

They have a purpose but not here. Not to mentioning resultant blockage in radiators, heater cores and trans oil heat exchanges.

It just depends on the desire whether to patch or repair.
