So a continuation in the saga of all of my cars seem to have small stupid issues, this one has a problem where the driver side blindspot light will just turn on and off on its own when there is no car in the blindspot. I have owned 4 different Fords between the 2016-2017 model years with BLIS and none of them have done this. It seems to happen mostly on the highway when in the left lane with a wall to my left, and on residential streets at slow speeds. I don't know why it happens, but the passenger side doesn't do this. There is no calibration for the sensors.

Does anyone else with a G4 notice the same thing?

The WSM only has diagnostics for a light that stays on continuously...not one that turns on sometimes when nothing is there.

This will be something I ask them to look into on my dealer trip soon but I'm pretty sure they'll tell me nothing is wrong. I may see if there is a SODR/L firmware update with UCDS when I remember to grab it from my office.

Mine often detects walls or sometimes even strongly contrasted shadows as “something in the blind spot”.

move never owned a vehicle with BLIS before so I’m not sure if it’s a glitch or they have the sensitivity too high. It doesn’t bother me if it’s the latter, since I wouldn’t be turning left if there is a wall left of me anyway, and technically that wall IS in the blind spot.

my old Chrysler had issues with shadows around sunset causing the headlights to blink. And my wife’s Chevy has a much more annoying problem of thinking a shadow on the road ahead (or change in pavement color) was an object that requires setting off the collision alert.

It only bothers me at night. When its really dark and it just blasts on suddenly. Its just weird to me because none of my other Fords with BLIS did it.

For those who have the 2020 Escape, has any one had the issue where the blind spot indicator will light up when there is no vehicle in their blind spot? i've noticed this on my 2020 and its really annoying. I can be in the curb lane or the middle lane with no vehicles around and its lighting up. Took it to the dealer and they said there no issues. I had my service advisor open a case with Ford about it.

Is it some object on the side of the road causing it?

(All these new electronic driver assistance systems seem prone to some problems when driving in the real world.)

I highly doubt, i can be in the middle lane and its indicating there is a vehicle in my blind spot. I also have an Edge ST with the blind spot system and i dont have that issue at all

Take it in and have the dealer do the calibration for the sensors.

Yep, two areas when come in close contact to a lane divider during a curving on-ramp, certianly not a big deal (to me). Does every time. Yours may need adjusting, but I would think you would want it as sensitive as possible.

I spoke to my service advisor today and he said his response from Ford was that there is currently no TSB out for the blind spot. He however asked a few questions to send back to Ford. I did mention if they can calibrate the sensors but i have not got a response from him as yet.

I have a 2020 Ford Escape with the same problem. Just got back after 4 hours at the Ford garage with no success. Understand other owners have the same problem with no resolution.

My blind spot issue is still present. My service advisor was hoping that the TSB/Recall 20E03 would have helped the issue but it hasn't. I would assume Ford engineers are still working on some sort of fix

My dealership is looking into this for me. They were originally blaming the defective rear camera but apparently this is not the case, as I got the replacement camera yesterday and the issue is still present. My assisted parking is also not working. I will update when it becomes available.

Glad found this post I have fresh build from late August 20 and immediately noticed issue with blind spot randomly turning on with no cars around. Any update on resolving this issue?

My SE AWL has had this problem sporadically, along with the Cross Traffic Alert. I have taken it to the dealer and they have “reset” and it works upon demonstration. When it happened again frequently, I called and their asked to bring it in. Of course it worked the whole drive to the ship, so they looked and reset again and said let us know how
It goes. Again, sporadically phantom blind spot activation. I’m not sure I want to let them keep it and start changing out parts or whatever. Idk there’s no guarantee of solution if it’s this common a problem. There’s no audio alert on the blind spot so it doesn’t really affect my driving habits of domain awareness. Having said all that, it’s a attractive and expensive bell and whistle to not work properly.

Yeah it happens infrequently and sporadically reproducing these type of issues for dealer is going to be PITA so I am just living with it.

My Wife’s Escape is experiencing the same thing. I driven it and noticed that it seems to happen when I’m in proximity to an automatic doors sensor, like the ones used on gas station entrances or anyone of the “sliding” glass doors. Could this be a cause?

It certainly could be. Perhaps they operate in a similar manner for detecting motion/ objects and in a similar frequency range.

I wasn’t too worried about it lighting up near something like my garage or other things in close proximity. It when driving down a 4 lane with no other vehicles or anything around, no trees, no street light posts, just open fields or it Not coming on when there is a vehicle passing or I am passing at times is a concern but when I want to prove that fact, it works every time. I gotten to the point I don’t even try to notice.
