Hi, I have a 2017 Ford Escape that makes a grinding/rumbling noise coming from the front end. I can feel the noise/vibration in the steering wheel. The noise/rumble/grinding only happens when I am backing out of my driveway and begin to turn left down my street. I can't make this noise EVERY time but my wife swears it happens everyday to her.
Anyone else? I bought this car with 30k on it, it now has 41k.

Could be a bad steering rack as well mostly if you feel as though your steering rack isn't working as it should be when you're driving.

Grinding and rumbling wouldn't be a rack.
Those are classic brake, hub, bad CV joint noises.
The fact that he names turning left and backing out of his driveway (guessing he also swings left when he backs out) leads me to a bad hub bearing.

jpohlman, and others, thanks for your input. I'm fairly certain that it is not the rack, and I'm leaning toward CV joints, or some other part of the front end. What I'm most worried about is that it may be a more serious issue i.e. transmission or 4wd/AWD system. I know it is still under warranty, but I want to be as specific as I can be if/when I bring it to the dealer, because I can't replicate the noise every time.

Check your CV boots haven't split and leaked (flung) the grease out.

Silly response I know but, did you look under the car? Maybe your engine shield is dragging? Good Luck :)

Did you find out what is causing the issue…I have the exact same problem
Tried to get it diagnosed last week, but when the dealer had not even looked at it after two days, we pulled it out. Will try again in a week or two and post results. Best research I have points to shock or control arm bushing.

when i turn the wheel both ways it's making a grinding sound and when i give it gas the sound gets louder until i don't give it any gas or go up to 50-55 mph also there's this thing that's protecting the gas tank it's hanging down would it cause it?

Mine was doing the same thing so when I did my oil change I looked at everything but nothing was obvious. Did have play in the hub bearing and inner tie rod so I ordered new parts. The next day it was 10x worse so I ordered a new cv and just going to replace it all at the same time. I have 150k.

Check your motor mounts. I had the grinding noise on my '13 and although it has many more miles (140k) than what I'm reading on this thread, that was the problem. Changed all 3 and all the grinding went away and I also noticed a much smoother acceleration feel as well.
