My 2013 Ford Escape 1.6L broke down AGAIN. This is the second time!!!! BOTH times were due to cooling system problems. The first time at least it was under warranty! Now it's 5K over warranty!!!! The service person called me back with "good news". My repair is "only" up to $800 so far! I told him that is not in fact "good news". That sucks! My Dodge Caliber NEVER broke down or had a million recalls on it! This one has recalls for FIRE DANGER. The brakes are super sensitive. The water pump was replaced last time it broke down. Thanks to this forum, I tried to ask them to test for other known issues with the cooling system which they didn't do. Now it's out of warranty and it's "only $800 so far". AND both times this car broke down I was on my way to the airport for business trips!!!! I'm trading this thing in and getting a Jeep. :(:crying::mad::mad:

also, if it is indeed the same problem that they supposedly fixed. perhaps you could get it escalated because they did indeed not fix it, and it was brought up before warranty expiration
That's a great idea. Last I spoke to the Service Department they said they could ask Ford for a 25% discount on the $800 bill. I said that wasn't good enough since this is a continuation of the old problem. He disagreed and said the water pump replacement was different. I'll keep asking!

Not a rule ;) but you bought the first new year, 2013, and the new 1.6, both of which are a big reason for issues.

Jeeps 9spd transmission has been a common issue since release a few years ago and only in the 2016 model year have supposedly fixed it. So be careful, also I would suggest not buying the first of a new model, wait until at least year 2

Yes. Year 2 is a better idea than jumping right in. I hate this car now. Funny enough, my best friend has a Jeep and it just about broke down today!!! Same issue as mine, coolant system warning. Haha. I'll have to really do my research on cars before I plunk down some more cash. Haha.

Ok, so Ford has had a # of recalls for issues such as this with the 1.6l including defective cylinder heads. So do what I did
and trade it for a newer unit with the 2.0l engine. I am NOW a very happy camper with a 2015 unit. Demand a
super deal on the replacement. I did and I got one.
Never give up!

I have to say I'm VERY happy with my 2013 2.0T Titanium ! My first American product and first automatic vehicle in 30+ years ! Yeah I had a few recalls (and dealer actually damaged other parts of car doing those recalls !!!!) but for all the features I have in my 13' compared to what I looked at in all the German and Asian brands, my Escape came out way ahead.

Just curious. What specifically do they want to do for $800. I have the same vehicle in the same model year and am loosely familiar with the warranty work performed on the recall.

Are you over heating? Did the vehicle have the recall cooling system warranty work way back when? What was the vehicle mileage when it was performed?

Are you experiencing coolant appearing in the oil?

I think if you go to any manufacturer's forum, you'll find complaints. No vehicle manufacturer is ever perfect. You just have to find something you are happy with.
