Today I installed a K and N filter in my 2014 Ford Escape SE

Yes, It has an open end and I haven't noticed too much of a sound difference yet.

I installed this same filter and the turbo spools instantly can't wait to do the snorkel delete and add the snorkel scoop.

you might try just leaving the lid off more more vroom pshhhh noise. (and in that case the snorkel would be useless to an open air box)

I have the lid off right now but I want to test the best set up with it being a little louder
