Well my 2020 Ford Escape Titanium 2.0L Ecoboost has the infamous coolant leak in cylinder 3. I admit I have driven this vehicle for long commutes to work so my vehicle was at 40k miles, but this is completely unacceptable. All service was done including the 30k service. I cannot believe this.

Sorry to hear that....I have never heard of this problem before on the later models. At least you are still under warranty.

Well exactly what did they tell you is the cause of this, because you should have the newer block design in the 2020 that ends this problem....Long highway driving is good for the engine, so that cant be a cause, if your thinking that...Let us know all you can find out..This could be very interesting...

How did you discover that you had that issue? Also does this happen on all ecoboost Escapes at certain mileage? I am likely never going to reach even 30k on mine at the current 6k miles per year before warranty expires but it's still concerning.

Could you elaborate on your understanding of “the newer block design”? What exactly has been changed from the older design?

Yes, the slit block coolant passages between cylinders design in 2017-19, 1.5-2.0 engines ..2020 on, have a drill or bore hole now design..Been a major complaint for last few years and a class action suit on going....

Thank you. I was hoping that they would go to a closed deck block design. Not convinced that this is “the” fix.

Any updates? It may have been a fluke and not necessarily a sign that the coolant issue hasn't been resolved. At least that's what I'm telling myself.

Thanks for the info but are you saying that from 2017 on has the redesigned block? My interest is that my power train warranty expires on the 24th.

I had a 2017 that I reported on here that had the coolant in the cyclinder problem. The Ford technician diagnosed it. Being that I had 55k miles on it already, I still had powertrain warranty coverage which took care of the cost. Ford replaced the entire long block. Yes, to your statement about warranty. If anyone out there has these models of vehicles, if you are running out of time on warranty, get an extended warranty if you haven't had the fixed version of the engine installed yet.

Same with my 2018, it's in for repair for the last 5 weeks,they have to replace short block. Coolant was leaking in cylinder 5 on mine! This really should be a recall!

My check engine light came on and car was getting sluggish,then after 5 weeks,which is what it took to get parts,the light started flashing,I drove it straight to dealership. Luckily they had a loaner,an EcoSport,not a very powerful car but was lucky they had it.

The 17-19 engines, 1.5-2.0 had the slit block design, supposedly by 2020 they changed the block again to correct it..I really wish Ford would come out with the truth about what is going on and do whats right with all concerned for now and the future....

Now this is interesting, he's stating the trouble lies in the plant where made..Now why would that be.? The design should be the same..Is the head gasket different, quality??..Is it the assembly procedure??...Come on Ford , come clean...

Sure is interesting. The Aussie 2L Ecoboost ones including mine have come from Valencia, Spain for some years and I do not know of any here in Oz with the coolant leak problem. I believe the newer 2020/21 models that came to Oz were also from Valencia.

Any updates you can share?
I have a 2020 2.0 eco (Valencia Plant) that has started to drink coolant. No leaks visible. I’m just over 30k miles. Dropping off at the dealership tomorrow.
