Hello,

I recently bought my used 2013 se 1.6 with 60k. After 3000 miles it threw a P26b7 code for the coolant bypass solenoid c. I replaced the part myself. I lost a little coolant in the process, but topped the reservoir off after I completed the installation of the new part. After about 3000 miles of driving and several long trips, I received a low coolant warning. I checked the reservoir and saw that the coolant was indeed low and just under the minimum mark. Has anybody had this issue before? I'm hoping its just that I didn't provide enough torque on the installation of the new part and that is the source of the leak, but I am very worried that there is something else at play here. Please help!

Unfortunately we don't really have enough information here. Have you checked the new solenoid to see if it's leaking?

It's very common for air to get into the system whenever you open the cooling system. So you may have refilled the reservoir, but after the engine goes through a few heat cycles those air bubbles work their way out and you have less coolant than you thought you did.

Is there any antifreeze smell under the hood?

Thanks for your input. Hopefully that is the case. I didn't notice any antifreeze smell after opening the hood. I looked around the solenoid and it was dry, however the engine was hot and if there was any leaking fluid it probably would have evaporated. I will top off the coolant reservoir again this afternoon to see if it indeed was air pockets that formed in the system. I have been reading about some of the other coolant issues in the 2013 1.6 and I am praying this is not leading my down a road to a new head gasket.

A head gasket is the less worry... You may encounter head or engine replacement due to 1.6T coolant issues.

Now, regarding the bypass solenoids. There is a TSB regarding those bastards mine also had the problem... Recently during a transmission cable fix I found a disconnected connector... Called the mechanic and he told me that during coolant bypass TSB or recalls (can't remember) some or all coolant bypass valve where disconnected. You may want to find out the status on your car to further diminish future coolant problems.

Interesting. Can you tell me where this connector was? Hopefully I am not loosing coolant there. I thought I had solved the issue with the bypass solenoid. Prior to this the coolant level was fine. It was an easy fix and I hope I didn't create more problems than I solved.
