Hey group. I began using my vehicle to take cross country trips in, and developed a series of set-ups for sleeping in my 2020 Escape.

I took advantage of the rear sliding seats to move them as far forward as possible. This left a roughly 6" gap between the folded seat backs and the rear deck area. I fabricated a filler piece out of a 2 x 6 cut to approximately 41" long and formed two legs cut to match the angled floor lines, and then covered it all in speaker box fabric to match.

My first season (Summer 2021) I set up a self inflating 2.5" foam camp pad and a sleeping bag, and a series of 11" cube storage bins from Target.

I used the WeatherTech full vehicle sunshades for privacy. I have two USb fans with lights and clips attached to the door grab handles.

The Curt hitch allowed me to mount a Curt cargo Carrier with two Rubbermaid Action Packer totes.

Last year I built a sliding camp drawer to hold a Dometic electric cooler, and my single burner stove and collapsible sink basin.

I powered the cooler and my electronics with an EcoFlow River PRO charged by a 100W solar panel on my roof rack, and where needed, the 12V accessory plug in the rear. The EcoFlow suffered from the lack of airflow and I had to rigone of my USB fans to be dedicated just to that.

So I am working on raising the drawer, and sleeping platform 5-6 inches, and building out a stacked storage unit just behind the drivers seat filling the space in front of the drawer.

The goal with the raised decking is to open up access to the spare tire well, install the temp spare (or not), and have access to that space accordingly, along with slideoutstorage.

The 3D modeling below shows the modular pieces of the drawer, the rear deck, the storage unit and a front sleeping deck (with angled bracing to match the angle of the folded seat backs).

Aside from the sleeping deck and drwer system, one small feature I want to add is a secondary hatch switch. Currently there is a weatherproof button on the liftgate handle, than when pressed, opens the liftgate (provided the doors are unlocked). I can buy that same switch for $8 and mount it inside, on one of the rear quarter trim panels (the one on the passenger's side) and access the wires for the liftgate's switch and slice into those wires as the loom enters the passenger compartment near the roof and liftgate opening. This lets me open the liftgate from inside while not having the power liftgate.

I was also picking up the spare grommets/plugs that cover the access holes for where the power liftgate wires are feed into the vehicle (I do not have the power liftgate), and use the driver's side to route my solar panel wires into the interior and set up a plug on the driver's side quarter panel trim to run off of and into my EcoFlow River PRO.

I was wondering if anyone else was looking at such a buildout. Or if you have ideas, considerations or a spare two cents you may want to add...

Yeah, I do have a Kelty tarp that I pitch when staying more than one day.

Ford sells something like #7 as an accessory. Too cumbersome to put up and down unless I was camping for more than 48 hours

You could probably used an option package like the Pontiac Aztek had.

That article left out the pizza delivery on the roof feature...
