Hi,
My Escape (155K miles) has this noise from rear right wheel.
The official service claims it is wheel bearing ($1600),
Meineke says nothing but too much emergency break usage ($0).
What do think?
Here is the video:

A way to help diagnose bearing noise is if the sound changes with turning as you weight and unweight the bearing.

Are you sure the noise is emanating from the right rear wheel? Have you had someone ride in the rear seat? Is the noise all the time or after turning?

Who is the official service?

MEINEKE says too much emergency brake usage? Are the brakes OK, and have been inspected?

Something doesn't sound right. These descriptions of service facilities is becoming frightening.

What model year and FWD or AWD?

BTW - The video URL didn't work for me.

Lift up the rear wheel and check for any movement. Left and right movement would be an issue with the suspension but movement in all directions indicate a bad wheel bearing. A failing wheel bearing can still make noise and not have movement yet, but it's still a good check.

Yes, it is from rear eight wheel. My car is 2014, SE, AWD. The breaks were changed 1.5/2 years ago.

Being AWD makes it a bit more difficult to diagnose as the wheel cannot be freely spun (?) with the drive axle in it.

If there is no shaking (movement in the wheel) as mentioned above, the easiest way to diagnose is to put it in the air (lift) and at idle and in gear listen for bearing noise with a stethoscope or long screwdriver or extension applied to the rear knuckle and the bone @ the front of you ear canal (be careful here).

EDIT - 16MAR2023 - Let me clarify the above statement.

If the car has CV JOINTS on either front or rear (or both), the axle ends have to be supported (to normal trim height) to prevent possible CV JOINT damage.

You can't allow the axle ends to hang while doing the above diagnostic procedure.

The other was is to remove the half-shaft so you can listen to it while spinning it. Check the LR also while it is up.

I cannot believe some of the story's being described here regarding these repair shops.

BTW - Anyone who gives you a quote of $1600.00, run fast, run far.

Yes, there are many competent and honest repair facilities out there. Finding one is the problem, including a dealer.

I personally would not use a dealer after the basic warranty ran out or it is a unique situation whereas it can only be solved at one.
