I have 130 miles on my Escape and the other day when I got out of it I noticed it was making a pretty good knocking sound. You don't hear it from the inside..is this normal? The only time I heard a knocking sound was when I needed a new engine years ago...
I just picked up my new Escape 2 weeks ago and it started making a diesel noise at idle the next morning. It sounds like a VW Jetta TDI diesel on a -40C morning. You certainly can't miss it. I've been searching on the net for Escape owners with the same issue, but honestly it's hard to find. I'm hoping that someone has the same problem on this forum. It's been at the dealer since mid-last week and at first they thought it was a broken engine mount.
It is very concerning since it's not always there and you can't miss it when it starts. Sounds like something is coming apart!
Any comments would be appreciated.

It's been at the dealer since mid-last week and at first they thought it was a broken engine mount, but now they received two new Hybrids today and they make the exact same sound when cold. They are thinking it's "normal operation"... This can't be normal. Here's a link to a video of the noise. 2020 Escape Hybrid noise at idle

Sounds very similar to mine. And you’re right. It’s not consistent when it’s there and its not always there which leads me to believe that it’s not “normal operation”.
My 2020 Titanium Hybrid sounds like this, and Service says that after checking with "the hotline" (w/e that means) that this is considered "normal operation". I disagree. Anyone else have this model and trim, and have this same sound? Marbles? To add some more info: -it has been making the...

Try turning the environmental systems off. AC frequently runs when using Defrost.
mine is not a hybrid and it makes a diesel sound but not like those posted. ive been meaning to go to my storage garage so i can take some sound of it.
Now I did read somewhere, i forgot, that a knocking noise is okay depending on the type of gas you use. So I think im going to fill up with prem next time to see if it still does it.
Okay so I went to take a video today and with the hood popped, it does sound exactly like the video posted so I suspect its normal and with all the plastic and weather striping there is it might cause an echo with the hood down and sound different.. i dunno :/
