When I was washing my 2013 escape sel 2 months ago I noticed rust on the left rear door lip I almost threw up . It's not even a year old and I wash it all the time .I went to my local dealer about 4 weeks ago and he still hasn't heard back from ford but he told me don't hold your breath One of the reasons I bought it was the sealer they put on the door lips and it's rusting above that .Anyone else have this ??

Four weeks without a response? Unacceptable - as it is for your dealer to be dismissive about any legit problem. It's up to your dealer to get a response from Ford, get the field rep in to look at it if need be. If you talked to a service advisor, you can talk to the service manager. You can also contact Ford.

Edit: if this type of rust is not covered, being told after four weeks to not hold your breath still isn't an answer. You'd hope the dealer would explain coverage and suggest ways to handle the problem.

The regular Ford bumper-to-bumper warranty does not cover surface rust or paint deterioration. However, there is a special five-year corrosion/perforation warranty, which states:
Your vehicle’s body sheet metal panels are covered for an extended Corrosion Coverage Period, which lasts for five years, regardless of miles driven. The extended warranty coverage only applies if a body sheet metal panel becomes perforated due to corrosion during normal use due to a manufacturing defect in factory-supplied materials or factory workmanship. For damage caused by airborne material (environmental fallout) where there is no factory-related defect involved and therefore no warranty − our policy is to provide free repair of paint damage due to the airborne material for 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

rust on door lip update

Here's an update on my door rusting problem after a few phone calls and a lot of pictures Ford agreed that it was a paint defect and agreed to pay for my repair .Before I sent it to the body shop I scraped the flaking paint with my knife just to see what it was. Under the primer was a white powder it fell right off .It was pretty thick and only in one section .The guy that did the repair said he had never seen ant thing like it before .Look at the in side lip of your doors I can't be alone It is kind of hard to see you have to look close ..

Hate to revive a dead thread but mine seems to have this issue as well. I was curious if it is happening to other owners as well? Mine isn't as bad as what the OP posted but I'm betting it will get there. My rust bubbles are starting to form on the inside lower portion of the drivers-side door. The car is garage kept, frequently detailed, and only has a little over 12,000 miles. Also been waiting almost three months to get the recalls done on my escape but the dealer keeps blowing me off. Starting to regret buying this car....

I haven't noticed rust on any parts of the body, but my exhaust tips are covered in rusty spots. Very disappointing in a car that's less than a year old.
