Hello, Taking a trip to Florida this weekend from PA. Just changed the Fluid in PTO (Lucas 85W-140) .....put new trans fluid in the trans Valvoline Full SYN (Merc LV, Dexron VI, DEX/MERC) topped them off. there is a bit of wine coming from the transmission area (was before fluid changes as well) upon take off under medium to heavier loads not really noticeable at traffic speeds or normal granny take offs but just wanted to post in here and see if there are any concerns on taking this vehicle to Florida and back. am i hearing normal gear wine from loaded bevel spur gears (RING/SUN gears) in side or is this the start of an actual issue where im gonna be putting a new trans and PTU in this thing? has 55K on it and just had the long block replaced at 44K for coolant intrusion. just dont want this thing to leave us sitting a long way from home.

thanks in advance!!

We would only be guessing whether it would take you to Florida and back without issues.
Does it whine in reverse?
Apparently the car has been tuned according to your signature....was the whine there before the tune or did the tune add considerable power that may have put extra pressure on the transmission?
In my view you would need to take it to a trannie specialist as the whine could be caused by a range of things including bearing noise, torque converter problems, clogged fluid line or filter etc. The obvious one is low transmission fluid but no doubt you have checked the level after changing it.

ok so yesterday i checked it again after driving on it for a little while and it was a little low (Maybe half quart) so i just filled it up till it ran out let it drip then put the plug back in it seems to have helped. could it really be that little amount of fluid would make that much of a difference in sound i guess if the level was literally just low enough. it definitely doesnt do it as much as it did...and i did notice an increase in gear whine after the tune to be expected but perhaps it was the lower fluid that was actually the culprit, yeah i understand that was a bit open ended of a question but i try and make sure that i didnt miss anything before the trip, maybe jumped the gun a little bit on the worry but i have read some other transmission and PTU issues on here the make me nervous lmao! im actually running the 87 tune right now as of a few days ago for the trip... not paying 93 prices as we are travelling.

Ok...that may rule out a couple of potential issues.
Keep us up to date with how your trip goes... :)
