1. Genuine Motorcraft Service Information
Both of these include complete Workshop Manuals and Wiring Diagrams; both are identical interactive programs (not a simple PDF document), fully indexed, with extensive hyperlinking between related sections and the ability to click on any connector reference in a wiring diagram to jump to the detailed connector pin-assignment view or the connector location view (picture showing where it is in the car); both include extensive text descriptions of systems overview, components, operations and diagnostics:

1.a. CDROM for purchase
  • Distributed for Ford / Motorcraft by Helm, Inc.; current Escape list by year here: Ford Escape Electronic Service Information (CD/DVD ROM or USB)
  • Be sure to check System requirements - these are designed to run in Windows on a PC; once installed they are 'stand-alone' (no internet connection required).
  • Any page or section can be printed to any installed Windows system printer.
  • The CDROM is copy protected and must be in your CDROM drive to use (though it can be installed from the original disk as a 'virtual disk' with some gyrations, then run off your hard-drive / SSD without the actual disk in your CDROM drive).
  • IMHO a fantastic 'must-have' tool for the DIY modifier, DIY repair-er, or owner who just likes to read 'how things work' in their Escape. This is a superb set of manuals, incredibly user-friendly once you get the hang of the organization.
1.b. Online Subscription Service
  • Available through Motorcraft Service; Subscribe here (change the Term on the drop-down to 72-hours for reasonable DIYer price): Motorcraft Service Information Subscription Purchase
  • Be sure to check System / Browser requirements - obviously, an internet connection is required to use.
  • Any page or section can be printed to any installed Windows system printer.
  • TIP: Install a freeware 'PDF Printer' before subscribing; you can print a lot of info in 72-hours if you have a 'PDF Printer' as your default system printer - much better than cumbersome 'screen-shots', IMHO the best way to archive tons of information during a short-term subscription for later off-line reference.
  • In addition to everything you get on the Motorcraft CDROM, the subscription also includes access to certain VIN-Specific vehicle as-built data and TSBs.
2. AllData DIY
  • See www.AllDataDIY.com
  • Many on this forum use this service and are very satisfied.
  • It may not include the extensive hyperlinking and text descriptions available with the Motorcraft product in 1., above.
  • The document organization is different from the Motorcraft Manual, conforming to a system approximately consistent among all vehicles covered by AllData.
4. FREE Wiring Diagrams ONLY
5. EBay, etc
Caveat Emptor is the key - you usually get only what you pay for (or less) and the fine-print or what is unsaid may lead to unpleasant surprises such as:
  • A CDROM purporting to be the genuine Motorcraft Service Manual but in fact containing 2,000+ pages of simple PDF scans/copies lacking the interactive features and indexing that makes the information useable for practical purposes; the 'content' may all be there but good luck finding what you need in it.
  • Missing / dated / illegible (poor scan quality) information.
  • Any of the other hassles that come with buying an illegal bootleg of a copy-protected CDROM (the Genuine Motorcraft CDROM is copyrighted and copy protected).
Hope that helps, I'd appreciate a mod ( @jshel101 ?) considering this for 'sticky status' - it's an oft-asked question and the sticky would make finding/linking in reply to those questions easier.

Another Resource - Haynes Publishing

FYI in the interest of keeping this thread 'complete':

Long established Haynes Publishing has updated their Ford Escape Manual to cover model years 2001 through 2017 in one volume. This is available as either a print or an online version.

Covering the Ford Escape, Mazda Tribute and Mercury Mariner (for applicable years) in 464 pages, one should anticipate that this manual will be significantly lacking in terms of scope and detail when compared to resources described under Items 1. and 2. in post # 1.

Another Resource - Factory-Manuals dot com

FYI in the interest of keeping this thread 'complete':

Forum member @HayaiKuruma has made me aware of this resource which includes manuals for Escape model years 2013 through 2018 as of this date. Available as 'standard' or "Deluxe Edition", the website explains that the " ... DeLuxe Edition contain the same manual, but is full operational with hyperlinks (Interactive pdf), bookmarks detailed on three steps and also have the connector details. ".

These manuals are clearly identified as being PDF format so they are not exactly the same user interface as the manuals described in Item 1.a. in post # 1 above.

I have not personally used one of these manuals. However, having watched this YouTube video overview of the Deluxe Edition I can say that the Deluxe Edition content appears to be identical to the substantive content in the Genuine Motorcraft Workshop Manuals with which I am very familiar and described in Item 1.a. of post # 1. Forum member HayaiKuruma has reported that he is very satisfied with these Deluxe Edition PDF manuals.

It is worth noting that, being entirely PDF format, these manuals may hold particular attraction for users using devices other than a Windows PC as long as those devices can support a PDF viewer (the Motorcraft WSM described in Item 1. of post # 1 requiring a Windows PC operating system).

As with any purchase, persons considering this resource should carefully review ALL of the website info, terms and conditions.

Your link came up with like 10 cars in one manual. It’s $1,450 ! Surely there’s a way to just get the Escape?

My original post is over a year old, websites change, I no longer own an Escape and will not continue updating this forum.

Go to the Helm homepage and from there you can navigate to see what's currently available for whatever year model you have.

As of the moment of this post I find Escape single-vehicle, single-year, service manual CD's through model year 2019 in stock and an option to sign-up for notification when 2020 is available.

Thanks for the response. Sorry to drag you back into a necro vehicle and thread.

Try this link. You can purchase a 72 hour subscription for your vehicle by year at a reasonable price. (https://www.motorcraftservice.com/Purchase/ViewProduct). Here is a screenshot:

The Helm mobile site is a disaster. Link I posted above doesn’t go where it should. Sometimes it works and you find them, sometimes not. You almost have to just search by part number.
Part # for the manuals on cd:
FCS14334__
Last two digits are the year.
So FCS1433414 is 2014 Escape manual.
