I recently brought my 2013 Ford Escape in for a recall. I was notified that the repair was done and I went to pick up my escape. When the dealer brought it out front for me the first thing I noticed was the check engine light was on. It had never been on prior to this nor had I had any issues with the car. I of course went right back in and asked about it. They hooked the code reader up and told me it had nothing to do with the work they did and it was a coincidence, however with out any further diagnostic they were reasonably sure it was a valve that needed replaced and that the gas tank would need to be dropped out and would cost approximately $1000. I can't help but feel like I'm being taken here. The dealer also said that I could drive the car for the rest of the time I owned it and the issue would not affect the car. The light went off later that day after it warmed up and has not come on again since and it's been almost a week.

As long as your FE isn't on Sync 3, you can run Vehicle Health Report. If you do this while the code is on the IDS display, it will log and send the error with description to the Fordowner.com website which you can review and print.

Reminds me of years ago when I took my car into a Firestone for a tuneup. When I left the car was running terrible. I took it back and they told me the fuel pump was bad. $750 to repair it. I took it too the dealership. They found someone had purposely cut part of the insulation on one of the spark plug wires causing the spark plug to misfire.

Take it too another dealership.
