Car is 2.5 years old and has 75000 KM (46000 Miles) on the clock, this is the 4th time having the oil in the PTU and 2nd time in the read diff change.

The first two oil change in the PTU were extremely dirty, lots of metallic particles in the oil, today's oil is the best looking so far, very little metallic particles stuck on the oil plug.

I forgot to take photo of the oil came out of the rear diff as we would have to open up the vacuum, but the used oil as the same color as the PTU.

Changing the fluid in the diff on a 3G model is difficult as apparently you have to remove part of the car frame to get at the drain/fill hole so I have not worried about it.
Hopefully the fluid will last the life of the car ...40,000 miles so far.
I have a 3g. The drain plug is just like the oil plug, you just have to remove the underbody shield but I took mine off years ago and never put it back. I can do an oil drain and fill at the same time as a transaxle drain and fill in 10 mins

I wish my differential cover was like that, but it has a subframe under it.

Wait, is access to your differential different than in this video?

Just to answer your question...it's the same with the cross member in the way and mechanics put it in the too hard basket.
Sorry for intruding on the trannie site.

It can definitely be done, but I can see where a lot of shops or even the dealer won't do it because it's a "lifetime" fluid and it's hard to get to. You can DIY it if you ever get the urge.
I am elderly and partially disabled so I doubt I will ever get the 'urge'. :p

You obviously need some sort of modified tool as shown in the video and that is probably also why mechanics are not interested.

Hello all Ive had the experience of making a drain plug using 5/16 tap and plug of half inch length. process is relly simple. started with a small drill bit to make a hole. then enlarged it with 2 drill bits till it was just one size below the 5/16 tap. tapping was really asy. material is very soft. my car has 222000kms and the oil that came out was only 200 ml and dark like almost black. i believe i'm gonna drive for a couple of weeks and then do another drain fill. here are the pictures. when the bit went inside there was lot of space i checked by putting nail inside to feel the drive gear, which was at least 1 1/2 inch away. hope its gonna help someone. cant post the pics but will try to post in a day or two.
