The cover on the trim piece was broken so the unit corroded. It was removed and the replacement bought didn't fit, it spun round and round and wouldn't stay down. 2 more units were bought, the next 2 have trim pieces that are too large to fit in the hole. The connection cable is still present so the unit just needs to be plugged into the wire. The 3rd unit bought has the prongs positioned wrong but the trim ring (with cover) still won't fit. Not sure how to solve this from here.

The part for the repair would be CV6Z-19N236-AA.
On the -C part the power connector connects to the socket at a 90º angle, hence the question about orientation.
For the repair you pull the connector through the new trim ring, install the trim ring, connect the socket and press it back in so that the small square side holes match the nubs on the interior of the trim ring.
The socket presses out a set of retainers on the inside of the ring to keep the trim ring from turning and the nubs prevent the socket from turning.
