So, this morning I noticed my 22 PHEV no longer has the EV only, or charge modes available, effectively making it a strictly hybrid vehicle, not a plug in hybrid. I paid a premium to have the Plug in hybrid option! I am so frustrated with FORD right now. so many recalls and now this car cannot even perform as advertised. 45K for this crap, Im beyond pissed and fed up with this trash. Never again FORD!

I'm only 1.5 years in financing this 23 phev and I hate my life for it. I've learned a lot about plug in vehicle during this time where the knowledge bases are very limited and I would never go phev again. Full hybrid sure, but even that Ford is light years behind on. I echo most people on this thread with the headaches and concerns surrounding this line of vehicles and if I could have it any other way I will move on from the Escape phev. Sign me up for any petitions to get a complete battery replacement folks. I don't know what to do but feel like I'm doing more damage driving for several months without charging and constantly having the vehicle in low power sleep mode with my Ford app yelling at me to plug it in asap! 😡

What % is your battery charged to? If it’s 0 then the other options won’t be available. When I let ours run down to 0 then I had the same situation. If I charge it then they are available

Yup, just confirmed it. Was at 0% and display showed only Auto EV available and not the others. Put a 7% charge on it and low and behold they were all available. When you have 0 battery displayed then there’s no battery to EV now or EV later. Makes sense.

What surprises me is that why aren't lawyers in every state with "Lemon Laws" contacting the owners, specially if the legal fees are covered? Don't know if Pennsylvania's Lemon law requirements are met. But this might get Ford's attention. I actually like my 22 Escape PHEV and have not had any real problems.
I have my doubts there is any truth to those statements. California code is very specific on the requirements for buyback-

Condition that is likely to cause death or serious bodily injury if the vehicle is driven and the nonconformity has been subject to repair two or more times by the manufacturer or its agents, and the buyer or lessee has at least once directly notified the manufacturer of the need for the repair of the nonconformity.

Subject to repair four or more times by the manufacturer or its agents and the buyer has at least once directly notified the manufacturer of the need for the repair

The vehicle is out of service by reason of repair of nonconformities by the manufacturer or its agents for a cumulative total of more than 30 calendar days since delivery of the vehicle to the buyer.

And these only apply if less than 18 months or 18000 miles since delivery.

Ford isnt light years behind on hybrid technology. The Fusion shares the powertrain and most of those exceed 250,000 miles without issues. You cant escape (no pun intended) the complications with battery manufacturing- the Escape isnt the only vehicle affected by the supplier quality issue.

Youre also not doing more damage not charging, and I do believe there is a TSB for the 12v battery draining issue- which is not connected in any way to the HV battery recall

I'm more so referring to the current line of vehicles equipped. There's no variety and if it weren't for having a family member working for the company I wouldn't have settled for the A-plan discount during a time where no dealer was negotiating as a result of shortage of inventory.

Just wondering if everyone is following Fords recommendation to NOT charge their Escape PHEV with the questionable batteries from Samsung. Also, are you parking outside in case of a vehicle fire? Thanks
Did the no charge for about a week or so and now back to charging on our level 1 charger. Currently parking outside because we’re not at home and no place to park inside. If we were at home then we would be inside. Still waffling on doing only 80% or 100%.

I also refrained for a couple weeks and thinking the level 1 charge is fine after looking at the input. I do have a battery for my solar system in the garage(connected to house) which requires a heat and smoke sensor with wi-fi to another in the house. This should help in case anything happens during the charging. Always wondered if Level 1 or 2 is better for longevity anyway?

I’ve owned two other plug in vehicles- and I’ve always been told that slower charging (level 1) is better for the battery. Faster charging probably generates more internal battery heat….? I’m not sure whether to charge or not…. I don’t want to do anything to void Ford’s warranty or cause a fire.

You're not a lone. I'm super anxious about this, but also have nowhere in my condo to plug my mobile charger into

The rate of charge isn't the issue- when you hit the brakes, depending on your HV battery SOC, regen can charge the battery at over 40kW.

The issue is voltage- voltage is potential. If the separating layer between the cathode and anode (+ and -) allows the voltage to cross then you have an internal short. This will most likely occur at high battery voltage

I have a Level 1 charger & charge the battery in my driveway. I stopped charging completely for a week & figured that since I'd been charging for over a year without incident, I'd try charging, but limit my charge to 50%. With MI Winter temps, I'm thinking that provides additional cushion against a battery thermal event.
Thoughts?

Of course, Ford in CYA mode, states in the letter I received via snail mail (bold red font), to refrain from any charging. I'm sure this can be tracked - Will this void my warranty?
