Has anyone else experienced their 2.0 EcoBoost just shutting down, when needed most? I have searched this topic, and it appears to be more prevalent on the 3.5 L in the trucks, Taurus, and Interceptors.
Mine is a 2014 2.0 4WD, delivered on September 15th, which just rolled 10,000 km yesterday - I have had zero issues, and have been very pleased with the vehicle, until this week.
This past Wednesday (the 22nd), I was exiting one highway and entering another via a cloverleaf exchange. The on ramp is a tight turn, combined with a fairly steep uphill climb, so in order to quickly merge with the existing traffic, I did not spare pressure on the accelerator (a.k.a. I floored it).
The entire truck shuddered violently, and immediately lost power - the engine light began flashing, and I was unable to achieve any more than 70 km/hr. Having had this happen in various vehicles through the years, I recognized this as being in a Limp Mode condition. Once out of the way of the traffic that was bearing down on me, and while still rolling, I shifted into neutral, shut the vehicle off, and restarted it. The engine light was no longer on, and vehicle ran fine. I drove it approximately another 45 minutes, without incident, to my Ford dealer, and handed them the keys.
The technician was unable to find any stored codes in the PCM, and therefore unable to diagnose any faults - as he put it, if they didn't know me, and hadn't heard the detailed description of the incident, they would not know anything had even occurred, from the vehicle itself...I was sent on my merry way, with a promise that they would contact Ford's Hotline for further advice.
They have now scheduled a minimum 3 hour service appointment for November 3rd, and made vague reference to a "wiring harness" and "engine splice".
Has anyone had their Escape pull a similar stunt? If so, what did your dealer do about it?
Are there existing recall campaigns on this?
Thanks for any info provided!
