2023 Ford Escape Front Camera Poor Design

2 months after purchasing my 2023 Ford Escape Platinum Hybrid a small rock hit our front camera while driving on the highway. Received a warning that features not functioning. I was really surprised to see the camera lens cracked, you would think the lens would be made of a durable material, just like headlights are, but it is not. Anyway, not covered under warranty, but is covered under our insurance (just like a rock chip to the windshield would be). In order to verify it's only the camera broken the dealer had to remove the entire front end and order the camera. So the car is taken apart and undriveable while they get the part. That was way back on November 18th. Turns out the camera is backordered, (and in high demand) have no idea how long I'll be without a car! I wonder how many other people have broken cameras. Definitely a quality issue and poor design. Hopefully the new camera will last longer!! If it does break again, I won't bring my car in to the dealer until I can verify, they have the replacement part!!

Wow! I didn't know. I'm glad I bought 22 PHEV at the end of the model year with a deep discount instead of waiting for the 23 PHEV.

EDIT: I looked it up. It seems the "front camera" OP is referring is for the 360 view system. My 22PHEV SEL is not equipped with the 360 view camera. Cursory search found that the 22 Escape also have the grille mounted front camera. I am not sure what in the black box behind the windshield in front of the rear view mirror. Maybe just for co-pilot 360 system which I have.

Not many places Ford could have placed the the front parking camera other than the front bumper. Although they could have tried some more durable glass. Maybe Gorilla Glass Victus?
