It does work fairly well with Pandora. You can't "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" songs, but you can skip with the steering wheel buttons and change stations with voice commands.

Lack of control of Sirius and am/fm does stink though. And it looks like Google isn't exactly making android auto improvements their top priority right now.

Thanks, my issue with Pandora is their algorithm. I like Tunein radio because it's just what it says it is, an app that allows you to pick actual existing internet radio stations and stream them, whereas Pandora basically puts the legwork on you to "build a station" which I have no interest in doing. Pandora's model is more like creating playlists. That's no different than shoving a bunch of my favorite songs on my phone because it leaves the user having to work at it.. Like local AM/FM stations, I can find a few I like, set them in my presets and away I go, nothing really required on my part to do that. Tunein Radio works the same. Problem is there's no Tunein integration with Sync 3 nor Android Auto, and therefore no steering wheel channel changing.

That's the bummer with Android Auto. Your app choices are basically some form of online streaming version of just having songs loaded on your phone's internal storage. The only workaround I've found was to just play Tunein Radio over bluetooth and set the app on my phone to the car mode layout and switch stations on my phone while it's resting in the phone cradle in the center console. It's a crappy workaround that I dislike having to do though. Ford used to have Tunein radio as a mobile app on older versions of Sync, I don't know why they ditched it.

interconnect,

Have you tried the bootleg version to see if that will run. I did the upgrade last week with it and I used a 4gb flash and it worked flawlessly. It has two stages to the install. Since your system is not working at this time, you may have nothing to lose.

Yes, I tried that one too. When I tried that one I got "Installation Failed. The installation has run out of space or does not work with this version."

I'm getting the "Bad Installation File. One or more of the files being installed on your system did not install successfully." I contacted Ford and their tech guys are supposed to call me back in the next couple of days to see how to fix it. I'll share when I hear back from them. Hopefully today.

I used the files that I got it to start the update from before and multiple fresh downloads of them. Gave up and decided I'm just going to wait to hear from them.

I did enable auto update in Sync in case it'll download a copy and fix itself. *fingers crossed* Otherwise, I hope their tech guys can just write some script that I can run to restore it to 1.0 and start over or something.

I'm in the same situation, "Bad Installation File...". I'd be interested to hear what feedback you get. I'm soon due for service anyway, so I'll likely have it addressed at the dealer when I bring it in.

This thread is about Android Auto and CarPlay for the 2016 Sync 3 systems. There are other threads on the official update to Sync 3 v2.2. Please move the discussion to the appropriate thread. I noticed that there has been duplicate posts posted in the two threads.

If you're unzipping it on a Mac, it's unzipping wrong. There should be 2 files and a folder you're adding to your flash drive. I don't have the old Mac extractions I tried, but it looks like all the Windows unzip did was put all those .gz files into a SyncMyRide folder.

There is a command line command you can run to extract it right, but I don't know it. $ unzip I think but not sure.

I managed to get the update to run, but it still shows me on 1.0. Now when I try to update thinking it didn't go through I get a bad files error despite them being the same. Same even if I redownload everything and start from scratch. Ugh.
Did you ever figure out how to fix this? I am not getting the error message but I have on ran the installation 3 times and everytime I check it still says Sync 1.0. For some reason it will not go to 2.2

That's good news. Good dealer you have there. They should all be like that.

I was satisfied with just bluetooth audio and phone until I used the in car nav a few times, and it is pretty goofy. I thought it was the cheap Type C cables I got for charging (as mine came with Type C to Type C cable), but after trying so many of them, I decided I had a configuration issue. Apparently I disallowed any Android Auto connections in the phone. I found the setting and allowed my Escape, and viola I have it on the dash screen now.

I now think that Android Auto is better than CarPlay in most respects. Okay Google will read wiki pages and stuff, CarPlay says it can't load web content while driving. Also the navigation looks better, has a better dark interface and works better than Siri.

Still working through some of the commands, I use "Okay Google" a lot, but this is a different context. I always use it via my Bluetooth headphones while walking, never taking out my phone from my pocket and ruining my night vision.

I have a '17 so it came with compatible USB connections, one in the center console the other in the dash in the lower cubby.

Depending on what I am doing, I will probably still leave the phone in my pocket and use bluetooth audio and phone, but longer trips will use Android Auto.

I wasn't sure which thread to add this comment to, so I'll put it here. :)

I have used Carplay in my 2017 Escape, but while on vacation I rented a car and it was a Chevy Malibu that had carplay. Well, I was just in messages while parked and was sending a pic to a friend. When I pressed on it (iphone 7), I think with touch 3d, the preview for the pic went onto the carplay screen. I tested this with a video from my camera roll in messages and it plays the video on the carplay screen. This only worked in messages when previewing the pic you are sending/sent.

I think this is probably a 'bug' that wasn't meant to work this way as the airplay says it's going to an appletv.

I tested this when i got home on my Escape and it worked there too.

Question about Sync3 - I recently rented a 2017 Ford Flex with it and everything was great - except that when you use Android Auto, your temperature or fan speed settings no longer pop-up when you adjust them, though for some reason you can see the volume level pop-up when turning the knob. I know this isn't Google's fault, because I also recently drove a 2017 Chevy Malibu and the temperature/fan speed pop-ups still came on when using Android Auto.

Does this issue persist with the Escape?

Edit: Just realized it doesn't really matter as the Escape shows the temperature and fan setting on the centre stack itself!
