Is there any way I can have the engine oil life readout come up on any of the displays without having to use a bluetooth phone thru SYNC? How does the shop do it? With an OBDII or special Ford interface? I have a 2014 escape SE 2.0 with my Sync.

I know there is plenty of info on how to perform a Vehicle Health Check, but this requires a phone connected to Sync via bluetooth as far as I know. Is there any way to get this info if you do not have a phone? I think this is what the OP is after.

You really should not count on the oil life monitor to tell you when to change your oil. It is not actually sampling the oil to check the additives, how much soot is built up, water content, etc.... The oil life is calculated based on your driving. It is pretty good, but I would still base it more on mileage, or if you want get an oil sample kit from Blackstone labs and run an analysis on it, and change it based on their analysis. I would not wait for 10K miles to change your oil with out verifying through oil analysis that the oil is still good, even with synthetic.

One of the things an oil life monitor typically takes into account is crankshaft revolutions. That tells us a little more than mileage. I believe it is best to follow the recommendations in the owner's manual. Those are based on the newer technologies in both oil and engines.

My Grandpa's recommendations were good in there time, but time moves on. :)
