Radio working but no display?

Hello all, hopefully, someone can help.

I had to give someone a jump with my car today, but I noticed later when I went to drive again that my display wasn't working. I had sound and could move the radio presets like normal but the screen is completely blank. I have no idea if it was related to giving a jump or not but that's the only different thing that happened today with the car.

Has anyone else had this?

EDIT: Forgot to mention it's a 2013 SE.

Also, went out there a few min ago again to try, and still blank but I noticed that if I look veeeery closely at the screen and squint to get it in the right light, there's a very faint mirror image of the clock in the top middle.

Not knowing what radio you have makes it hard to help. Did you try the lights dimmer?

Hmmm .... so no MFT display but the audio (and everything else in the car) works OK including all exterior and interior lights, correct??

.... I'd try these things in this order ....

1) Double check just for grins - verify that the instrument light dimmer near the headlight switch is full bright

2) open and look over all the fuses in the box under the hood - are any blown?

3) Check fuse number 67 (7.5amp) in the BCM behind and below the glove box - that's the fuse for the Display Interface Module

4) You might try disconnecting the negative battery cable from the 'jump-start post' (don't let it touch anything metal) and leave it off for about a minute or two, then reconnect (That's half the procedure for a SYNC System 'master reset'; the other half requires MFT to be working so you can navigate to the system setting 'reset' button on the screen). Yes, when you pull-off the cable and when you put it back you will likely get a spark - no worries, it won't hurt you or the car as long as you are not touching any of the RED cables (UNLESS YOU HAVE A PACEMAKER OR SIMILAR IMPLANT !! - then get somebody else to do this ;-).

Correct. Everything else works just fine, all lights accounted for and driver display (gas, mileage etc) is normal. Audio sound fine and the steering wheel controls change the stations on my pre-sets still. I just can't SEE anything happening.

Checked the dimmer, that's at full.

Actually just tried to get fuse 67 out but couldn't without the proper puller. Only realised that the puller was in the engine compartment fuse panel after it got dark and read the manual a bit better. Gonna try again tomorrow in daylight...couldn't even get a pair of pliers in that space, it's a small fit.

If that fails, I'll try your battery idea. Cheers for the suggestions!

Cheers, I'll definitely keep you posted. I'll be trying again after work tomorrow.

After searching for a while earlier I found a post elsewhere where someone stated that after they pulled their battery, their screen stopped working but a quick disconnect/reconnect got it working again, so I remain hopeful! But first I'll tackle the pesky fuse and cross my fingers

By all means if it's easier for you to try pulling the neg battery than it is to check fuse 67, pull the battery cable first!

I only put it after on the suggested checklist because for me a fuse check is easier, YMMV ;-)

Ok so...update.

Pulled fuse 67 (made MUCH easier by the discovery of the fuse pullers in the engine fuse box!), it was fine, not blown. Put it back in, tried turning car on and still no display.

Next I disconnected the negative wire on the battery, left it off for a minute and reconnected. Car battery turned on but when I went to start it it made a noise then all power went off. Turns out I didn't tighten enough lol. Tightened, and the power came back but this time my radio was on a completely different station stuck on a Pujabi music party...so I went to change stations and nothing. Even the scan buttons under the display didn't work. It was stuck, so I turned it off by pressing the middle dial button.

Checked fuse 67 one more time as I worried that maybe not connecting it properly blew it but it's still fine.

Tried to turn the radio back on and now there's nothing, so sound whatsoever, none of buttons are working.

I'm at a loss, and 6000km out of my warranty...just my luck!

Well heck, that's disheartening to say the least.

I certainly would understand if you ignore me at this point .....

1) Check BJB fuse F79 (15amp main fuse for Front Controls Interface Module)

2) Try again with a "clean" negative cable disconnect / reconnect applying the 'make it tight' lesson learned. Be sure the disconnect time is at least one full minute.

3) If you have an OBD code reader, plug it into the port and post all codes reported .... there are a bunch relating to the entertainment system which may be reported depending on your OBD tool. Looking those up in the Workshop Manual could indicate what is amiss, though few of those have an owner-serviceable solution (most require dealer tools to fully diagnose, the DTC code just gets them into the correct general area for problem solving)

lol any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

Well, shortly after my previous post, it started heaving it down with rain, and my garage is occupied so I'll have to try again tomorrow.

I did a VIN search and discovered that there is a recall:

FSA Title: SYNC WITH MYFORD/MYLINCOLN TOUCH - WARRANTY EXTENSION COVERING ACCESSORY PROTOCOL INTERFACE MODULE (APIM)

So perhaps that has something to do with it?

I booked in a tentative service appointment for thursday, perhaps I'll be able to solve it before then, but that's my backup, just in case!

Times like these I miss my 01 sunfire...simple electronics and easy accessibility under the hood!, not to mention a way easier fuse panel location lol

Will report back tomorrow after work once I've tried the new fuse and retested the battery. I don't have an OBD reader so that's un testable unfortunately.

We are having the exact issue on our 2010. Local Ford dealer told us it was our ACM (Audio Control Module) because the radio wouldn't work but they couldn't confirm if that was the issue we got into the escape and the radio was set to AUX as we had our phone plugged into it for music.. The radio works fine just no display.. Now we are being told it is possibly the radio itself that needs to be replaced. Did you have any luck fixing your display?

Radio working display not? - Similiar issue Ford Escape 2013

Hey,

Vehicle: Ford Escape 2013 SE 2.0l

I am having the same issue with the dash Display Unit not showing anything, but the radio still working. It didn't just die like, but had lines and a fading display for a week or so, but now it is just blank.
Any ideas?
Can I just buy a second hand display unit and replace it? Likely part no: CJ5Z10D885FB (Of course not longer available new)
How does the SYNC control module behind the display unit drive the display unit?
Could it be the module rather than the display unit? Likely part no: DA5Z14D212KA

Any assistance would be great.

Thanks

Before buying any parts, you should check with a dealer to see if you have coverage under the 12M02 program which gives a 5-year extended warranty on the APIM module, and if that applies to your problem. Or log in to owner.ford.com which may also tell you.

California girl-Nebraska Adult

Hi all!
My name is Brandi. I purchased my 2015 Ford Escape Eco Boost 1.6L ( Silver Fox ) back in California, pre owned. Fell in love with her, but she hasn’t been treating me right. Had all the recalls taken care of, just had the turbo replaced, and now, my information screen above the radio has gone out. It flickered on and off like an old tv going out and now it’s white. So I can’t use the menu features or see my back up camera. The radio works and the sync works, but I can’t see anything on the screen. I moved away from my mechanic and I’m at a loss. Any ideas?? Is it a fuse? Module? I don’t want to get ripped off.

Thank you!!! ?

I had the same issue with my 2014 with MFT. It turned out to be the battery. The funny thing was it would still start the car. I guess it the MFT doesn't see a certain voltage it shuts its self down. As soon as I put the new battery it everything worked again. That was about a year and a half ago and its worked flawlessly ever since. It could be when you jump started the other car the battery voltage dipped bellow the level MFT needs to see.
