I work for a Ford dealer and have found this rear suspension noise common in almost all 2013's it does not occur on every bump but occurs over certain types of bumpit sounds to me like the shocks are topping out....
I agree with Chappy. It does feel like the rear shocks are bottoming out. I noticed it on my rental Ford Escape. Has anyone got the latest news on this problem?

4 degrees here in Missouri today and guess what I now hear on my vehicle?
Yep....rear suspension sounding like it's loose or bottoming out on something. Every man hole cover I hit this morning made the rear end on either side sound like it's broken.
It appears the TSB doesn't cover the 14's but I'm printing it up and showing it to the dealer anyway.

Grrrrr.

Service Bulletin Number: TSB-13-5-11

  • Report Date:
    May 10, 2013
  • Component:
    Suspension
Summary: Ford: when driving over bumps or making low speed turns, some vehicles may experience some noises from front suspension, like creaking or crunching type. Model 2012-2013 focus, escape.

Well, on my 2014, I'm starting to get squeaking from the front struts, and a crunching nosie :( Just rolled over 11k.

Last night, I started hearing a crunch type noise every time I braked at very slow speeds, or turned the steering wheel at slow parking lot speeds.

and the list for my dealership gets longer....

Hi guys,

If you're having a concern with suspension noises, etc., make an appointment to see your dealer and then PM me your name, phone number, VIN, mileage, and dealer info. I'll see how I can help!

Ashley
Thanks Ashley I am coming up on a year so my inspection is coming due, at the end of the month, so I'll chime when I am closer. I am looking at both front and rear issues.

Thanks again Ashley. I'm waiting on my new headliner to arrive and once it does I'll send you another PM on my VIN and this newest issue with my '14.

Ashley, I always see the same canned response whenever somebody has a problem on this forum. But I never have seen any resolution to their problems. Never ever. What gives?

Well, for one thing, Ashley (or any online Ford rep) can't make the repairs herself -- her task is more like greasing the wheels of automotive justice. But it's up to the forum member to report the results. No one from Ford can come here and disclose how individual owners are faring with their vehicles. Send a PM to the member if you're curious about what happened.

JoeyO,

As JMR said, I'm unable to disclose the personal case info for customers who I've helped. As I help more people here, I think you'll see some forum members who will come back and voluntarily share the results. :)

JMR,

I am loving this description. I shared it with my co-workers and we've decided it is our new unofficial tagline. So thanks for getting our day off to a great start. :D

How come I miss this thread??? Same "popping" sound in the back suspension both side. Will have it check on next oil change. Reading that thread again, anybody had it resolved after doing bulletin 353220

I had that TSB done 1 month ago, and it did not fix the rear suspension noise. The noise is definitely worse the colder the temperature. It seems to occur when the suspension extends, like when going over a dip in the road.

When I test drove a Titanium last Wednesday I heard creaking from the rear suspension every time we went over a road imperfection. The salesman suggested it was ice buildup on the rear door but those TSB's imply otherwise.

I take delivery of my Titanium next week - it's on a train bound for the dealership. I will obviously inspect the vehicle before closing the deal. If I hear the same creaking my intent is to ask the dealership to fix it before I take possession. However, I am not seeing a lot of postings from people who have a successful resolution so would I be asking the dealership to perform the impossible?

Ours makes clunk sounds in the rear going over bigger bumps when driving in the cold. But my bmw also makes different suspension sounds in the cold too.

Hi Dalele,

I have also the same problem with the suspention of my 2013 escape titaniume. I heard it the first time during test drive and the dealer told me that it is due to the cold weather (it was minus 38 oC that day). It is already a month since i bought this car and it is still there very annoying and sometimes scary as it sounds it may break something. Any idea on how to solve it.
thanks
